Engineering Capability Lead—Services Delivery SME

As Engineering Capability Lead at the NCC, you’re the focal point for your capability group. When you’re not working to meet the technical needs of industry innovators, you’re the guiding light for a varied team of specialist engineers, helping them thrive in all they do.

About the team

Within the Industrial Innovation team, Engineering Services Delivery work extensively with Small & Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) to help them get ideas to market in the best possible way. You’ll be working on many different projects with a wide variety of customers from a variety of industries.

Key principles

  • Engage – be in the right place: connecting businesses to supply chains, partners and support services; facilitating a wide membership network, training and growth services.
  • Discover – have the right plan: site visits and discovery workshops, in‑person or virtual with specialists; technical support, offering guidance, advice and reassurance.
  • Transform – deliver the right solution: innovation projects to develop products, services, processes and technologies; adoption and training services to transform and upskill businesses.

What you’ll be doing

  • Define and deliver the capability roadmap in line with NCC strategy and sector roadmaps.
  • Develop the capability in the team to align with the demands of the business and growth ambitions.
  • Collaborate with sector specialists to plan future programmes and resources required to deliver the programme of work.
  • Ensure effective and efficient deployment of resources to deliver the work and review performance taking corrective actions where required.
  • Shape and provide critical technical inputs into proposals and projects across the organisation as subject matter expert.
  • Develop measures to know at all times what good looks like. Champion ‘good to great’ behaviours and act as a role model for the team.

What we’re looking for

  • Substantial experience in Engineering – broad general engineering background in new product development, design for manufacture, composites or advanced materials across sectors such as aerospace, defence, energy, sustainability, or automotive. Passionate about developing teams, motivating and inspiring a team of like‑minded people striving to deliver customer focused excellence through a highly collaborative approach.
  • Line management experience – experience of, or a vision for empowering, inspiring and leading a team to successfully deliver project outcomes. Work with the team to deliver a vision for capability growth and direction by striking a balance between commercial success and impact for NCC, our customers and the UK.
  • A diligent approach – ethos of continuous improvement and a drive for quality and promoting positive behaviours. Effectively manage the team ensuring all members are resourced while paying due attention to personal development and performance. Work with project managers to scope and plan projects to be delivered by your team.
  • Critically, you’re an inspiring leader – solve problems in partnership with the rest of the design team, and in concert with other NCC teams towards our shared purpose.

Values

  • Make a difference – act in line with our shared purpose.
  • Push the boundaries – expand our impact, lean into uncertainty and change.
  • Deliver excellence together – solve problems in partnership, share knowledge.
  • Care about our future – act safely, securely, ethically and sustainably and support one another to grow.
