Position Overview: The NC State Extension provides research‐based knowledge to North Carolinians, transforming science into everyday solutions that improve lives and foster prosperity. This role allows the employee to teach without a traditional classroom setting, working across agriculture, environment, health, youth, and community sectors.

Primary Purpose of the Position: Lead the planning, execution, and evaluation of comprehensive 4‐H programs that meet county needs and support the organization's mission to develop youth and adults into effective citizens through hands‐on learning experiences.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure positive youth development principles are applied in all programs.
  • Recruit, train, manage, and recognize volunteer leaders for 4‐H clubs.
  • Raise funds for youth participation and volunteer development.
  • Manage a county‐wide 4‐H advisory council that identifies programmatic needs and champions 4‐H in the community.
  • Develop marketing and recruiting strategies to attract youth and volunteers from all sectors.
  • Maintain program records, ensure compliance with regulations, and manage finances.
  • Provide leadership at district, state, and national levels through professional associations.

Requirements and Preferences:

  • Work schedule: 40 hours per week; night and weekend hours typical.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 overall or 3.0 in child/youth development or related field (waived for NCCE Program Associates). Bachelor's degree plus at least half a Master's curriculum with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in a related field. Master's degree in child/youth development or related field.

  • Experience working as an effective team member.
  • Knowledge in mass media, marketing, and presentations.
  • Leadership, citizenship, budget management, and public relations skills.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer leaders for broad outreach.
  • Experience writing grant proposals supporting programs.

Required License or Certification: Valid North Carolina driver's license.

Recruitment Hiring range: Minimum Bachelor's $40,000; Minimum Master's $45,000; Minimum Doctorate $50,000.
