An excellent opportunity for an Accounts Manager to join a growing company based in St Helens.

This is a hands‑on position where you'll oversee the purchase ledger, sales ledger and credit control functions, ensuring the smooth running of the finance department while supporting the wider business with accurate financial information.

You'll have a strong background across transactional finance and be confident managing both people and processes.

Accounts Manager Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day running of the accounts department.
  • Lead, support and develop a small finance team.
  • Oversee the purchase ledger function, ensuring supplier invoices are processed accurately and payments are made on time.
  • Manage the sales ledger, ensuring customer invoices are raised promptly and accurately.
  • Supervise the credit control process, monitoring outstanding debt and implementing effective collection strategies.
  • Review and authorise supplier payment runs.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and key balance sheet accounts.
  • Assist with month-end procedures including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations.
  • Produce aged debtor and aged creditor reports.
  • Investigate and resolve invoice queries and account discrepancies.
  • Maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Accounts Manager Experience Required
  • Strong knowledge of both purchase ledger and sales ledger processes.
  • Proven experience overseeing credit control and reducing aged debt.
  • Previous experience managing or mentoring a small finance team.
  • AAT qualified / part-qualified, or qualified by experience
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach and develop others.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a varied workload.
  • High attention to detail and excellent accuracy.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build strong working relationships across the business.
  • Good Excel skills and experience using accounting software.
