The successful applicant will work as part of a Laboratory Support Department covering the three main science buildings across the John Innes Centre, providing an essential service to John Innes Centre scientists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Distribution of sterile media and supplies
- Washing, drying, and distribution of laboratory glassware
- Preparation of sterile and non-sterile consumables
- Maintaining communal consumable stocks
- Carrying out practical tasks as designated by the building laboratory supervisor
Key Relationships:
Laboratory attendants are deployed to JIC science buildings as required by laboratory supervisors. The local supervisor manages daily operations. Attendants collaborate with science staff, students, stores, purchasing, facilities, and other staff in NBI Partnership Ltd.
Main Activities & Responsibilities:
- Collection, washing, and distribution of labware
- Maintaining communal consumable stocks
- Preparation and distribution of sterile labware and consumables
- Use of lab equipment such as washers and drying cabinets
- Performing other duties as agreed with line manager or building supervisor
Person Profile:
Education & Qualifications: Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, including Maths and English
Specialist Knowledge & Skills: Competent in computer skills and file sharing systems; understanding of quality assurance (QA); good understanding of general Health and Safety requirements in laboratory environments
Relevant Experience: Previous laboratory experience
Interpersonal & Communication Skills: Ability to follow instructions and SOPs; work independently with initiative; excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills; ability to present complex information clearly; strong team skills
Additional Requirements: Attention to detail; willingness to uphold institute values and behaviors; ability to maintain confidentiality; promote equality and diversity; present a positive image of self and institute
