The Director, Government and Regulatory Affairs is responsible for:
- Leading the company's engagement with the UK Government, politicians, regulators, industry bodies and market stakeholders on issues affecting the film and television production and distribution business.
- Shaping and advancing the company's UK public policy and regulatory strategy, ensuring a stable, competitive, and sustainable environment for investment, content creation and distribution.
- Developing and advancing the company's government affairs strategies for the UK to address key areas of importance for NBCUniversal's UK businesses.
- Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with Government and other political and industry stakeholders.
The Director will work as a key member of NBCUniversal's International Government and Regulatory Affairs team and will need to liaise, coordinate and work closely with NBCUniversal's and Sky's government affairs team members responsible for the UK, Brussels, Continental Europe, China, Asia Pacific and Latin America.
The Director will be responsible for managing NBCUniversal's relationship with its external government affairs consultants in the UK, providing instructions on NBCUniversal project work, securing and developing their advice and overseeing their work for the company.
The Director will also be responsible for providing instructions to and managing our relationships on UK government affairs matters with our key trade associations – the Motion Pictures Association and the Commercial On-Demand and Broadcasting Association.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director, Government and Regulatory Affairs will be responsible for driving NBCUniversal's government affairs and regulatory work in the UK. The role will both formulate and implement NBCUniversal's agreed strategy in line with targeted international priorities.
Government affairs matters covered will include those that are particular to NBCUniversal's business as a media company and IP owner. These will include copyright, copyright ownership, AI and content protection, broadcasting, streaming and media regulation, market access for distribution of our content and the delivery of public subsidies and tax incentives for content production for our international film and television production businesses.
Matters covered will also include government affairs matters that are relevant to all US-owned companies conducting business in the UK, such as data privacy, sustainability, employment law and sanctions.
The Director will:
- Be responsible for leading NBCUniversal's government affairs initiatives in the UK in close collaboration with NBCUniversal's business leaders and corporate functions.
- Develop and implement UK-specific strategic objectives and action plans to support our government affairs priorities.
- Represent NBCUniversal's agreed policy interests in the UK with Government and other political stakeholders, regulators and other relevant bodies.
- Work with external consultancies in developing and implementing NBCUniversal's advocacy priorities in the UK.
- Develop and maintain strong and effective working relationships with political and regulatory stakeholders.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Significant experience in UK government affairs, regulatory affairs, public policy, or a related field, ideally within media, entertainment, technology, or another regulated sector.
- Strong understanding of the UK legislative and regulatory landscape for media businesses, including the role of independent regulators.
- Proven experience engaging effectively with political stakeholders and regulators.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distil complex regulatory and policy issues for senior business audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to operate strategically and independently in a fast-moving environment.
- Direct experience working on film, television, broadcasting, or digital media regulation.
- Existing relationships with key UK policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
- Experience contributing to or leading regulatory or industry-wide advocacy initiatives.
- Familiarity with international regulatory and policy frameworks affecting content creation, copyright ownership and distribution.
