Job Description

This Associate Producer role supports NBC News’ Today Show by researching, sourcing, shaping and producing video-led stories for a fast-moving international news environment.

Working with producers and editors, you will create video-led content for NBC News’ flagship Today Show broadcast while developing your skills as a cutting producer, shaping video-led stories and edits to fit the editorial style of NBC News and the Today Show.

A keen eye for compelling video, strong editorial flair for storytelling and close collaboration with the international newsdesk will be essential, including tracking breaking stories as they develop in real time.

You will be expected to pitch stories, strengthen your technical skills, and work with editors and producers to select shots, gather material, and shape edits.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the full production process, from research, scripting, and video acquisition through to field production and crew supervision.
  • Collaborate with the newsdesk and SNG to identify, source and use compelling video for broadcast and digital storytelling.
  • Support producers and senior producers in strengthening stories and ensuring they are sharp, clear, and editorially sound.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team devoted to fast-paced and unpredictable coverage, with a focus on improving each story.
  • Maintain flexibility, including extended hours when needed under tight deadlines, during breaking news and short-notice deployments.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Newsroom experience is required; experience at a major US broadcast network is desirable.
  • Understanding agency feeds and user-generated content (UGC).
  • Experience with Avid, Adobe Premiere Pro or VPost is desirable.
  • Clear understanding of the complex organisation of a large media company.
  • Familiarity with the demands and schedules of network news, cable news, and digital platforms.
  • Proficiency in Outlook, i News and major social platforms, including X, Facebook, Tik Tok and Instagram.
  • Strong understanding of American news, culture and pop culture.
  • Demonstrable creative skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, react quickly to challenging situations, and use sound news judgment.
