Universal International Studios (UIS), a division of Universal Studio Group, partners with storytellers from around the globe to create bold and distinctive shows with universal resonance. Based in London, UIS includes production companies such as Carnival Films, Matchbox Pictures, Working Title Television, and Heyday Television. UIS also develops and produces original series and partners with third parties on various projects.
The primary responsibility of this role is to provide business and legal affairs ("BALA") support to NBCUniversal Formats, the international sales division responsible for all formats created within the production, broadcast and streaming divisions of NBCUniversal and Sky Studios. The role will involve:
- Drafting and negotiating various format agreements, including options, licences, acquisition, co-development and co-production agreements.
- Advising on rights and IP issues.
- Managing stakeholder relationships across NBCUniversal.
- Collaborating with all studio, production, channel and platform entities within Universal Television Entertainment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Legal Advisory & Stakeholder Support: Working with the BALA team at UIS on all matters relating to NBCUniversal Formats.
- Contract Drafting, Negotiation & Commercial Agreements: Drafting and negotiating agreements with international clients.
- Rights Management & Intellectual Property: Liaising with NBCUniversal’s IP Group regarding rights analyses and clearance.
- Deal Lifecycle & Process Management: Managing the process and life-cycle of all BALA related elements to a format deal.
- Compliance & Governance: Assisting with UIS compliance protocols and processes.
- Cross Functional Collaboration & Relationship Management: Building strong relationships with all teams within UIS and across NBCUniversal.
Skills and Experience:
- Qualified solicitor (2+ years PQE) with a UK-based legal qualification.
- Experience working in-house within media and entertainment.
- Exceptional drafting skills and negotiation experience.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage urgent work assignments.
- Confident verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly organised and efficient with attention to detail.
