Working as part of NBBJ's integrated team, the Senior Technical Architect provides technical leadership from detailed design through construction, ensuring technical design intent is translated into robust, compliant, and buildable solutions.

The role requires a UK qualified architect with deep experience delivering large or complex projects, confident in working in both client-side (client monitoring role) and novated design and build roles. The ability to lead and coordinate technical design teams while collaborating closely with specialist subcontractors and project leadership is key to applicant success. The position is available as permanent or as a temporary contract (with potential to convert).

In your new role, you will:

  • Lead and contribute to the technical design and delivery of projects across RIBA Stages 3 to 6, with a focus on detailed design development, coordination, and construction.
  • Collaborate with NBBJ's internal Project Manager to establish design programmes, responsibility matrices, and deliverables.
  • Lead coordination with consultants, contractors, and subcontractors to develop integrated, compliant solutions.
  • Engage directly with clients, project managers, cost consultants, contractors, and subcontractors navigating competing priorities and resolving technical challenges.
  • Solve project-related technical issues through sound decision-making, judgment, and research.
  • Translate architectural design concepts into robust technical drawings, details, schedules, and specifications, ensuring clarity, buildability, and performance.
  • Review and process contractor submittals and shop drawings.
  • Lead responses to RFIs, technical clarifications, and the design change process.
  • Be flexible and adaptable to work as the responsible Project Architect or Package Lead, pending project size/type/stage and your experience.

What you will need to succeed:

  • 10+ years of professional experience delivering major construction projects (ideally in the Science, Education, and/or Healthcare sectors in the UK).
  • ARB registered architect (UK qualified).
  • Past success working with large, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK Building Regulations, British Standards, CDM, and construction best practice.
  • Demonstrable experience in construction detailing, construction materials, and assemblies.
  • Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit for technical design and documentation.
  • Experience in preparing, coordinating, and maintaining NBS Chorus specifications (Uniclass2015).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites both inside and outside of the M25, depending on project location.
  • Experience with the construction of large or complex projects.
