The Security Operations Centre (SOC) Manager is responsible for the effective management of the SOC function, ensuring security systems, processes, and personnel operate efficiently to protect the business. The role focuses on operational excellence, continuous improvement, incident management, team development, and the effective use of security technology and intelligence.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure all SOC policies, procedures, and standards remain current, relevant, and are consistently enforced.
- Monitor security systems across the estate, ensuring faults are promptly reported, tracked, and resolved within agreed timescales.
- Investigate security incidents to ensure procedures have been followed and lessons learned are identified and implemented.
- Manage and develop the SOC team, including performance management, training, administration, and liaison with Human Resources where appropriate.
- Conduct regular one-to-one meetings with all team members to support performance, development, and wellbeing.
- Promote the proactive use of the SOC to enhance operational effectiveness across the business.
- Produce and present SOC performance reports and management information to stakeholders at all levels.
- Conduct regular audits of access control systems to ensure user data is accurate and maintained appropriately.
- Ensure all CCTV requests comply with relevant legislation, company policy, and are fulfilled within agreed timescales.
- Ensure intelligence and incident information is accurate, timely, and communicated to the relevant Regional Profit Protection Manager (RPPM) or stakeholder.
- Conduct quality assurance checks on SOC operators, ensuring KPI targets are achieved and improvement plans are implemented where necessary.
- Continuously review SOC procedures and recommend or implement improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensure all new team members receive appropriate onboarding, training, and ongoing development.
- Manage and maintain the SOC e-learning programme, ensuring content remains current and relevant.
- Work closely with the Security Technology Team to reduce false alarms, identify root causes, and provide reporting on performance improvements.
Skills, Experience and Knowledge
- Previous experience in a similar role.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make informed decisions in a fast‑paced environment.
- Good working knowledge of CCTV, access control systems, alarm receiving software, and security industry best practices.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and present information clearly.
- Technical knowledge of alarm systems and fault‑finding methodologies.
- Ability to liaise effectively with engineers, contractors, and technical support teams.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum of 3–5 years' operational experience within a Security Operations Centre (SOC) or Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC).
- Demonstrable experience managing or supervising operational teams.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including nights, weekends, and out‑of‑hours support when required to meet operational needs.
