Navis Consulting have partnered with the Port of Tyne to source and secure a new Harbour Master.
The Port of Tyne is a Trust Port, receives no Government funding, is run on a commercial basis and reinvests all profits into the Port for the benefit of all its stakeholders who are customers, employees, businesses, the Government & the community.
As Harbour Master, you will provide strategic direction and leadership for the Statutory Harbour Authority of the Port of Tyne
Responsibilities include:
- As part of the Port’s Senior Management Team, contribute to the development of the Port’s overall strategy in a manner that is consistent with the aims and values of the organisation and which are effective in achieving the agreed objectives.
- Provide strong direction and leadership, ensuring all operational services are safe, customer focused and of high quality, effectively utilising human, financial and material resources
- Achieve continuous improvement in business delivery by adopting a performance management and customer focused approach to the leadership and management of staff.
- Plan, develop and implement strategies to deliver a modern, reliable, effective and commercially sustainable marine services operation
- Ensure the strength and depth of the organisation and its future development is supported by the application of sound succession management planning and the creation of an inclusive and diverse workforce
- Promote best practice and observe all statutory requirements of a Statutory and Competent Harbour Authority, together with compliance with all aspects of the Port Marine Safety Code.
- Manage the Statutory Harbour Authority to budget
- Ensure the strength and depth of the organisation and its future development is supported by the application of sound succession management planning and the creation of an inclusive and diverse workforce
Experience Required:
- Previous experience as Harbour Master or similar (highly desirable) Experienced Deputy Harbour Master’s may also be considered
- Strong leadership skills with an engaging & clear communication style
- Extensive experience in maritime operations, including experience in a supervisory or management role
- Ability to handle emergency situations and make quick decisions under pressure.
- Knowledge of maritime safety regulations, environmental laws, and industry best practices.
- Previous sea going experience (desirable)
- Hold a Harbour Master Certificate (HM Certificate) (desirable)
You must have the right to work in the UK to be considered. The role is hybrid (3 days in office / 2 at home) You will receive an excellent base salary & benefits.
