Electrical Engineer (Marine) – Permanent – Bristol – Hybrid – up to £60,000 pa
Our client provides robust and reliable performance monitoring and control solutions for both crewed and uncrewed vessels, of all sizes and functions, in the complex marine environment and they are looking for an Electrical Engineer to join their team.
Role Description
As an Electrical Engineer you will use technical knowledge to develop solutions to customer\’s problems.
Suitable candidates will require both theoretical and practical experience of working with electronic products.
You will be involved in projects from concept and design, through to implementation, testing, handover and support.
You may also work on maintenance programs.
Key Responsibilities
Work alongside sales teams to identify customers bespoke requirements for the company\’s solutions
Ground up design of electrical systems and products
Read and create design specifications and technical drawings
Research suitable solutions and estimate costs and timescales based on customers recommendations
Make models and prototypes of products
Design and conduct testing on built systems both within the office, remotely for on board systems and also in person where required
Record, analyse and interpret test data
Propose modifications and retest products
Qualify the final product or system
Prepare product documentation, write reports, and give presentations
Monitor our products and solutions whilst in use to improve on future designs
The Successful Candidate
A successful Electrical Engineer will combine strong technical understanding with excellent interpersonal and practical skills.
You will be a confident communicator able to understand, design, build and commission complex electrical solutions.
You will be passionate about managing customer expectations whilst delivering fantastic customer support.
Candidates should have a high level of self-motivation and a strong drive to learn and continue to learn and develop in the future.
You will have the willingness to adapt to varying demands of the role throughout our busy periods.
Essential Experience
An Electronics/Electrical/Controls Engineer; ideally with an interest in the IoT field
Minimum 3 years\’ experience in electrical system design
A strong understanding and ability to fault-find industrial communication protocols including
Ethernet Networks, serial communications, CANbus, GSM
Hands on experience in electrical system builds (Industrial panel, rack, harness or similar)
Experience programming PLCs or similar embedded devices
Able to fault-find electrical systems
Able to produce clear installation and user manuals for new systems
Ability to teach others and support customer demonstrations
Knowledge of the marine industry/environment is advantageous
Understanding software management tools (Git, Jira etc.) is an advantage
Clean Full Driving License
Desired Qualifications / Experience
Degree in Marine Engineering, Computer Science, Naval Architecture, or a related technical field
Knowledge of maritime digital ecosystems such as condition monitoring, voyage optimization, remote diagnostics, or cybersecurity compliance
Experience with Unmanned Surface Vessels
Experience with software integration across electrical/mechanical vessel systems
Multilingual communication skills
