Main duties of the job

As a Grounds& Estates Operative you would be working as part of a small and friendlyteam within The Estates Team. Your job would be to provide a high-qualityservice across Navigo\'s sites, ensuring that the estate, grounds, and communalareas are well-maintained, carrying out a programme of works, as well as anyday-to-day ad-hoc tasks.

There will bea requirement to be flexible and work at all sites within the organisation,especially when covering team absences or unforeseen eventualities.

Therole will suit a person who has experience of working in a grounds or estatesrole within the NHS or similar setting, a friendly adaptable attitude andenjoys the variety this role offers, depending on the needs of the business.

Job responsibilities

Develop and maintainpositive working relationships with colleagues, contractors and service users.

Assist and support theEstates and Grounds Manager during your day-to-day duties to ensure compliancewith all health and safety legislation, standards and procedures.

Respond to grounds relatedincidents as they arise and advise on appropriate course of action.

Assist with operationaltasks within the wider estates functions as and when required to providesupport for colleagues.

Maintain sufficient stocklevels for chemicals, spares and equipment and request via the Estates andGrounds Manager, the supply of goods with reference to manufacturers productnumbers.

Correctly follow routinemaintenance schedules and procedures for the grounds and gardens, vehicles andequipment.

Safely and correctlyprepare, clean, use and store equipment, tools, materials and work areasleaving them in a suitable condition for future use.

Undertakes all groundsmaintenance work both hard and soft including:

Grass cutting using bothride-on and pedestrian equipment.

Strimming, weeding &scarifying.

Pruning & hedge cuttingusing handheld equipment

Planting and maintainingborders

Winter grounds maintenanceincluding additional gritting & Snow clearing as required.

Planning and construction ofnew and renovated areas.

flagging, kerbing, repairs totarmac, block paving & fences.

Keep the sites tidy andgenerally free from leaves and debris.

Inspects landscaping,footpaths and trees on a weekly basis to identify defective or dangerous areasand report to the Estates and Grounds Manager.

Maintains upkeep of bordersin the internal courtyards and enhanced gardens across all sites.

Undertakes annual pesticidespraying in accordance with manufactures instructions

Ensure that the plant,equipment and buildings within the Estates Department are always secure.

Liaise with colleagues toensure adequate cover is maintained during periods of annual leave and otherstaff absences.

During winter months supportEstates colleagues (internally and externally) with building repairs, projectsand maintenance.

Assist and support theEstates and Grounds Manager in project work, surveys, and other similar duties.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Work experience in Horticultural Environments
  • Proven ability to understand and take instruction and with detailed procedures.
  • Experience in a similar role
  • Working with and alongside multiple trades

Qualifications

  • NVQ level 2 or City & Guilds, certificate in Horticulture or equivalent grounds maintenance qualification
  • Minimum 3 years proven experience within a similar commercial grounds maintenance role.
  • Approved pesticide application PA1 & PA6
  • Grounds Machinery training

Additional Criteria

  • Be able to demonstrate competence in the required range of technical aspects applicable to the post
  • Be able to plan, programme and manage maintenance under pressure.
  • Clear and accurate written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willing to be flexible in terms of working hours.
