Navigo Community Psychology are seeking to recruit a highly enthusiastic and motivated Psychological Therapist, to work within our service to cover a period of Maternity Leave. The role is full-time; however, part-time hours and flexible working would be considered. The service provides support to adults across North East Lincolnshire and can receive referrals for a variety of clinical presentations, including Complex-PTSD, moderate to severe Anxiety and Depression, Bipolar and Personality Disorder. The team is made up of a range of psychological professionals, who are all passionate about providing high-quality psychological care. We also value the importance of teamwork, peer support and having access to regular CPD opportunities. Please note the earliest start date for this position is 05th May 2026.

Main duties of the job

  • The Psychological therapist would be expected to make skilled evaluation and treatment plans for people with complex psychological needs, often presenting with comorbidities and a longstanding history of difficulties.
  • They would also implement and monitor specialised evidence-based psychological interventions, taking into account the complexity of needs identified.
  • Psychology staff are provided with a day working from home to encourage the opportunity for CPD practice and support with administrative duties.
  • The successful candidate will join a team of Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, Psychological Therapists and Assistant Psychologists, who work closely with colleagues within the local Community Mental Health Teams and other Navigo services.

Job responsibilities

  • Accountable for own professional practice in the delivery of specialist psychological care to clients with complex mental health conditions, which may include challenging behaviours.
  • To be compassionate in meeting the needs of clients, their carers and families and promote at all times a positive image of people with mental ill health and any associated disabilities.
  • To provide advice, guidance and when applicable, clinical supervision to less experienced colleagues within the designated psychology service and to other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • To be pro-active in continual service improvement within own area.
  • To promote at all times a positive image of the service and the wider organisation.

Main Duties & Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provides specialist psychological assessment of clients with complex conditions based on the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of data from a variety of sources.
  • Formulates plans for specialist psychological therapy and/or management of clients' mental health conditions based upon an appropriate conceptual framework and evidence-based practice. Negotiates the implementation of such plans with clients and/or their carers.
  • Implements a range of specialist psychological therapies for individual clients, carers, and groups, adjusting and refining psychological formulations as required.
  • Evaluates therapy options and makes decisions about treatment.
  • Responsible for recognising the potential for, or signs of client harm, abuse or neglect, including poor clinical practice, reporting all such concerns and taking all reasonable steps to protect the client. Responsible for identifying and reporting concerns regarding the safeguarding of children who may be at risk.
  • Undertakes risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and provides specialist advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
  • Liaises regularly with other professionals involved with the clients' case, ensuring any concerns regarding welfare or risk to self or others is passed on in a timely manner.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Required at times to undertake administrative tasks in relation to own work.
  • Uses Microsoft Office applications on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient/client records using SYSTMONE in accordance with the organisational and professional record keeping standards.
  • When required, writes reports for other members of the multidisciplinary team and external parties regarding patient/client related matters.

Responsibility for Organising and Business Development

  • Organises own workload on a day-to-day basis, prioritising work as appropriate.
  • Plans individual client care and where appropriate, acts as lead professional, ensuring the provision of a multidisciplinary care package appropriate for the clients' needs.
  • Pro-active in identifying and proposing changes to local procedures and working practices in own area and plays a significant role in implementation.
  • Support management, when required, in the monitoring of the Psychology services performance data and training statistics.

Service Development

  • Pro-active in identifying and proposing safety, quality and service improvements within own work area.
  • Participates in the development, monitoring and evaluation of service improvements in own area.
  • Represents the Psychology service at clinical and business meetings, liaising with and informing staff across the organisation on Psychology related matters and feedback information to the team when required.

Person Specification

  • Trained in evidence-based Psychological therapies, namely Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Accreditation with BABCP as a CBT therapist.
  • Training in evidence-based interventions for severe mental illness.
  • Experience working with service users with neuro-diversity.

Additional Criteria

  • Communicate complex and highly sensitive information effectively, to a wide range of people.
  • Adapt creatively the evidence base for interventions in mental health for clients with communication difficulties / learning disabilities.
  • Able to work in accordance with the organisations values and ethos.
  • Able to engage with vulnerable people and work effectively in highly distressing and challenging circumstances.
  • Able to use own initiative and make decisions independently.
  • Skills in using multimedia materials in presentations.

Experience

  • Must have experience or interest in working with serious mental illness cohorts and comorbidity.
  • Experience of delivering CBT.
  • Multi-disciplinary team working.
  • Experience of delivering EMDR, CAT, DBT and other evidence-based therapies.
  • Experience of group therapy.
  • Experience of delivering supervision and/or providing teaching to both Psychology and non-Psychology staff.
