With a strong commitment to safety, reliability, and operational efficiency, the Senior Vessel IT Engineer will play a key role within our global Vessel IT team. The team is structured across multiple locations, including Vessel IT and Senior Vessel IT Engineers in Manila and the Group Vessel IT Manager based in London. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the fleet’s IT and communications infrastructure, ensuring seamless day-to-day operations while also contributing to the successful delivery of Vessel IT projects across the organisation. The Senior Vessel IT Engineer reports directly to the Group Vessel IT Manager, working closely together to drive continuous improvement and ensure robust, reliable vessel connectivity and systems performance. This position can be based in any of our European offices: Gdynia (Poland), Copenhagen (Denmark), or London (United Kingdom).
Responsibilities
- Provide L2/L3 support for Vessel IT and communication systems across the fleet, ensuring high availability, stability, and reliable operations.
- Act as an escalation point for complex incidents and support L1/L2 engineers in resolving technical issues.
- Perform root cause analysis and drive end-to-end remediation, coordinating with internal teams and external suppliers where needed.
- Maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot vessel IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, endpoints, and satellite communications.
- Support installation, configuration, and maintenance of onboard IT systems and marine applications.
- Ensure effective backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes are in place and regularly tested.
- Manage IT hardware lifecycle activities, including deployment, upgrades, and decommissioning.
- Deliver IT changes and support projects in line with change management, risk, and documentation standards.
- Contribute to cybersecurity controls, including patching, access management, endpoint protection, and policy enforcement.
- Collaborate with vendors and service providers to ensure reliable and secure Vessel IT services.
Requirements
- 5+ years’ experience as a Vessel IT Engineer or in a similar IT support role; candidates with strong general IT experience will also be considered.
- Degree or relevant IT certification.
- Strong knowledge of Windows 11 and Microsoft 365 support.
- Solid understanding of Windows Server (Active Directory, DNS, file services).
- Good grasp of IP networking (VLANs, routing, switching) and network troubleshooting.
- Understanding of network security concepts (firewalls, VPNs, endpoint protection).
- Experience with virtualisation (VMware, Hyper‑V, or Scale Computing HyperCore).
- Familiarity with ITSM tools, remote support, and endpoint management platforms.
- Experience supporting network infrastructure (switches, routers, firewalls).
- Knowledge of satellite communications and remote connectivity troubleshooting.
- Willingness to travel internationally to vessels.
