Senior Health, Safety & Environment Advisor role focused on leading HSE across major civil engineering projects. You will drive best practice in safety, health and sustainability, advise leadership, and maintain strong client relationships. The position emphasizes incident investigation, audits, and continuous improvement to protect every worker. You will mentor juniors, oversee HSE plans, and ensure legal and contractual compliance. This is a significant opportunity to shape safety culture on high‑profile projects.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead best practice in safety, health and sustainability on projects
  • Advise Directors, Managers and Supervisors to fulfill HSE duties
  • Liaise with Client to build positive relationships and trust
  • Lead ad-hoc HSE projects (e.g., Improvement Plans, Supervisor Development Programmes)
  • Ensure personnel understand statutory duties and provide guidance as needed
  • Mentor junior HSE Advisors as required
  • Contribute to a culture of "Everyone Home Safe and Healthy every day"
  • Manage surveillance, inspections, and audits to verify compliance and recommend improvements
  • Lead, participate in, and oversee accident/incident investigations with analyses to prevent recurrence
  • Manage and review HSE statistics to identify trends and improvement areas
  • Assist in induction development and delivery for projects and HUB days
  • Prepare and review HSE documents (plans, procedures, method statements) and third‑party plans
  • Maintain records to ensure compliance with Legislation, procedures and Contract Requirements
  • Ensure compliance with Schedule of Partners KPIs
  • Stop work if HSE elements are in question

Key requirements

  • Senior H&S membership (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH, IEMA, CQI)
  • Extensive HSE experience in civil engineering infrastructure (tunnelling experience desirable)
  • Solid understanding of ISO 9001, 14001 and BS OHSAS 18001
  • MS Office package knowledge (Outlook, Excel, Word, Visio, MS Project)
  • Commercial and contractual awareness
