An opportunity has arisen for an Urban Designer/Layout Designer to join a design-led residential developer, supporting the central design team in delivering high-quality, commercially viable schemes. Working alongside the Design Manager, you will assist with early-stage feasibility work for land acquisition through to planning, ensuring developments align with internal design standards and place-making principles. This role would suit someone looking to develop their career within a business that places real emphasis on design quality and thoughtful development.

Main Responsibilities of the Layout Designer:

  • Support the preparation of feasibility layouts and concept masterplans for prospective sites
  • Produce drawings, layouts and supporting design information in line with project requirements
  • Assist regional teams throughout the planning process, ensuring consistency with design standards
  • Contribute to the creation and refinement of internal guidance and design documentation
  • Attend meetings and engage with internal stakeholders and external parties as required
  • Build an understanding of planning, urban design and technical considerations impacting residential development
  • Develop strong working relationships across the business

To be considered for the Layout Designer position:

  • A degree in Architecture, Urban Design or a related discipline
  • Experience in residential layout design, ideally within a developer or consultancy environment
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign and SketchUp (Revit advantageous)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good presentation skills and the ability to communicate design ideas clearly
  • A proactive and organised approach to work
  • An understanding of the balance between design quality and commercial requirements
