About the Role
As a Senior Flood Risk Modeller, you will take a lead role in the delivery of hydraulic and hydrological modelling projects focused on flood risk, rainfall analysis and catchment modelling. The role will involve developing and reviewing 1D and 2D flood models using InfoWorks ICM across river, surface water and coastal environments, supporting major flood resilience and infrastructure projects throughout the UK. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the technical growth of the wider flood risk team.
The key responsibilities for this Senior Flood Risk Modeller role are:
- Lead hydraulic and hydrological modelling projects focused on flood risk management
- Develop and review 1D and 2D flood models using InfoWorks ICM
- Carry out rainfall analysis, flood forecasting and catchment modelling activities
- Deliver technical analysis, reporting and quality assurance for flood risk assessments
- Support flood alleviation, coastal resilience and flood forecasting schemes
- Work collaboratively with environmental, engineering and planning teams
- Mentor and support junior team members within the modelling team
- Support project delivery including programme, financial and change control processes
- Contribute to tendering, client engagement and technical development activities
Experience required for this Senior Flood Risk Modeller role are:
- Proven experience delivering flood risk and hydraulic modelling projects
- Strong experience using InfoWorks ICM for rainfall and flood modelling
- Experience developing 1D and 2D hydraulic models for flood risk assessments
- Strong understanding of hydrology, rainfall modelling and flood forecasting
- GIS experience using ArcGIS, QGIS or similar software
- Strong analytical and technical reporting capability
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills
Desirable knowledge, skills and experience for this Senior Flood Risk Modeller role are:
- Experience using Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, ESTRY or HEC-RAS
- Knowledge of FEH hydrological assessments and UK flood modelling standards
- Chartered status or working towards professional accreditation
- Experience supporting Environment Agency or local authority frameworks
- Experience working on coastal or catchment-wide flood resilience projects
