About the Role
As Maintenance Manager, you will take ownership of reliability, performance and safety across a portfolio of anaerobic digestion plants. Reporting into senior operations leadership, you'll lead improvement projects, manage maintenance strategy and drive continuous improvement across operations. This is a senior engineering leadership role combining capital project delivery, hands-on maintenance management and operational excellence. You'll work closely with operations, engineering, HSE and external contractors to reduce downtime, improve availability and ensure safe, compliant plant performance. It's a strong opportunity for an experienced process or plant engineer looking to make a tangible impact in the clean energy sector.
The key requirements for this role are:
- Lead and deliver plant improvement projects focused on reliability, capacity, efficiency, safety and compliance
- Develop business cases, scopes, budgets and programmes for improvement works
- Own and lead the Management of Change process for all plant modifications
- Manage commissioning and handover of improvement projects to operations and maintenance teams
- Lead, coach and develop multi-skilled maintenance teams across mechanical, electrical and control disciplines
- Define and maintain preventive, predictive and statutory maintenance strategies
- Own shutdown and turnaround planning, execution and post-event review
- Drive reliability engineering practices including root cause analysis and defect elimination
- Own and continuously improve the CMMS, ensuring data quality, reporting and optimisation
- Manage critical spares strategy, inventory and contractor performance
- Champion a strong safety culture including PTW, LOTO, confined space and ATEX compliance
- Ensure statutory inspections and regulatory compliance across all assets
Experience required for this role are:
- HNC, HND or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Process Engineering
- Proven experience managing maintenance and improvement projects on industrial process plant
- Strong background delivering CAPEX and OPEX improvement programmes
- Hands-on experience administering and improving CMMS platforms
- Demonstrable leadership of multi-skilled maintenance teams in regulated or high-hazard environments
- Strong understanding of UK HSE regulations including PUWER, LOLER, PSSR and DSEAR
- Experience working within permit-to-work systems and process safety environments
Desirable knowledge, skills and experience for this role are:
- Experience within anaerobic digestion, biogas or biomethane facilities
- Exposure to PLC, SCADA and control system change management
- Lean or continuous improvement experience
- IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 management systems
- Experience working with ATEX equipment and hazardous areas
