About the Role

As a High Voltage Installation Technician you will be responsible for the installation, assembly and commissioning support of high-voltage equipment including transformers, switchgear and associated substation components. You will work nationwide on critical projects, ensuring installations are carried out to the highest standards of safety and quality. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical skills, a commitment to safe working practices and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, supervisors and other site staff.

The key requirements for this High Voltage Installation Technician role are:

  • Install, assemble and connect HV transformers, switchgear and related equipment (11kV-400kV)
  • Carry out HV cable terminations, busbar connections and auxiliary wiring to specification
  • Support factory and site acceptance testing, as well as commissioning activities
  • Ensure compliance with electrical standards, manufacturer guidelines and project safety procedures
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics
  • Conduct inspections to verify installation quality and readiness for energisation
  • Work under permit-to-work and lockout/tagout systems in line with HSE regulations
  • Maintain accurate records, reports and as-built documentation
  • Support and guide junior technicians and subcontractors on-site

Experience required for this High Voltage Installation Technician role are:

  • Recognised electrical trade qualification or equivalent technical diploma
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in HV installation (11kV-400kV)
  • Proven experience in transformer and switchgear installation (AIS and GIS)
  • Competence in HV cable jointing and terminations (certification preferred)
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards and HV procedures
  • Experience delivering substation installation projects (utility, industrial or EPC)
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationwide

Desirable knowledge, skills and experience for this High Voltage Installation Technician role are:

  • Experience with protection and control wiring
  • Knowledge of SCADA or substation automation systems
  • Familiarity with GIS installation
