Responsibilities for the Head of Environment & Sustainability Role:
- Ensure business compliance with Environmental and Sustainability policies and strategies across the function and audit compliance with legal and statutory regulations.
- Develop and implement the IMS requirements for environmental/sustainability management.
- Lead the Environmental team and provide positive leadership, guidance and mentoring for internal development as well as liaising with external 3rd parties to ensure the needs and support of the department are met.
- Be part of the HSQE team and assist the team to maintain full engagement in meeting business objectives.
- Understand corporate and client requirements for environmental/sustainability management.
- Assist the project teams in the production of EMPs and associated documentation.
- Reviewing environmental management requirements in WPPs.
- Provide support and advice to project teams regarding consent applications, such that requirements are identified, and applications are made on time to meet project timescales.
- Prepare consent applications and undertake pre-application consultation as required.
- Providing support and advice to project teams regarding SWMPs so that legal requirements are properly identified and implemented, including duty of care and transfer documentation, and that data is properly recorded.
- Identify, develop and deliver environmental training: Induction, tool-box talks, training for personnel with specific environmental responsibilities.
- Interface with/manage specialist consultants, e.g. ecology, and acoustics.
- Co-ordinate with other contractors regarding cumulative impacts on adjacent worksites.
Seeking someone with:
- A minimum of 5 Years Environment and sustainability experience within a Managerial or Leader position in this discipline; ideally within Rail, Engineering or construction.
- Experience in environmental management on major programme of work in the construction industry.
- Good understanding of the UK legislative framework and requirements.
- PTS desirable, site visits are required to conduct relevant inspections and observations.
- Good understanding of railway process and procedures including railway standards.
- Good level of Computer literacy.
- Willingness to travel with full driving licence to meet the business requirements.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team and support as required.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with excellent interpersonal skills.
- The ability to stay calm and meet deadlines.
- Full membership (ISEP).
Salary / Benefits: Negotiable between £75,000 - £85,000 plus car / allowance and package.
