Due to continued growth and project success, a multi-disciplinary railway turnkey business is looking to hire an experienced Environmental Advisor to support rail infrastructure projects across the UK. This role is remote based with site-based travel and occasional office presence at head office in Chesterfield.
As an Environmental Advisor, you will be responsible for leading environmental management, compliance, and sustainability performance across the company's rail and construction projects. Acting as the subject matter expert, this role provides strategic direction, technical guidance, and operational support to ensure all activities comply with UK environmental legislation, client requirements, RISQS standards, and the Integrated Management System (IMS). The role requires a proactive, hands-on leader who can influence project teams, manage environmental risk, and drive continuous improvement while supporting Net Zero and sustainability objectives.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading environmental compliance across multiple projects
- Providing expert guidance to project teams and senior management
- Managing environmental risks, audits, and inspections
- Developing and implementing EMPs/ESMPs
- Driving sustainability, carbon reduction, and biodiversity initiatives
- Supporting ISO 14001 and IMS compliance
Essential Requirements:
- Degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, etc.
- Experience in environmental roles within construction, infrastructure, or rail
- Knowledge of UK environmental legislation and compliance
- Experience with environmental audits, inspections, and EMPs
- Working knowledge of ISO 14001 management systems
- Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills
Desirable Skills & Attributes:
- Experience in the rail sector, including work on Network Rail or Tier 1 contractor projects
- Knowledge of RISQS requirements and rail assurance processes
- PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification or willingness to obtain
- Membership of a professional body (e.g. PISEP/MISEP)
- Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) or working towards
- Understanding of CDM Regulations and environmental integration
- Experience with carbon management, sustainability reporting, and Net Zero strategies
- Knowledge of biodiversity net gain (BNG) and sustainable resource management
- Experience managing or mentoring junior team members
Salary: Between £50,000 - £60,000 DOE negotiable dependant on level of experience plus package including car/allowance.
