A Principal Contractor and the leading provider of electrical solutions for rail infrastructure, specialising in Overhead Catenary System (OCS) and High Voltage Traction and Non-Traction Power Supply (HV) is looking to hire an experienced Senior Commercial Manager to be responsible for the strategic leadership and end-to-end commercial management of allocated projects, frameworks and programmes across a major portfolio of works in Scotland. Based in Glasgow with hybrid working.

As a Senior Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the commercial management of allocated projects, frameworks and programmes within the Transport and Energy sectors, primarily supporting the Scotland and Ireland region within the wider business.
  • Taking ownership of commercial performance, including margin protection, cash recovery, WIP/debt management, forecasting accuracy, risk and opportunity management and final account strategy.
  • Ensuring effective contract administration, including notices, change control, records, payment mechanisms and contractual timescales.
  • Leading monthly commercial reviews, cost reporting, CVR preparation, cash forecasting and financial performance management.
  • Reporting and explaining commercial performance, key risks, opportunities and corrective actions to senior management.
  • Providing senior commercial input to bids, tenders and pre-construction activities, including contract review, risk allocation, pricing assumptions and handover into delivery.
  • Ensuring robust commercial governance, approval records, contract review discipline and clear escalation of non-standard or high-risk matters.
  • Managing, mentoring and developing Commercial Managers, Quantity Surveyors and commercial support staff, setting clear standards and improving team capability.
  • Building and maintaining effective client, supply chain and internal stakeholder relationships while protecting the commercial position of the business.

To be considered for this Senior Commercial Manager position you will have:

  • Strong experience in a commercial management or quantity surveying role within rail infrastructure, energy, utilities, power, civil engineering or major projects.
  • Strong understanding of commercial and financial reporting within project, programme, framework or portfolio environments.
  • Experience managing and administering construction, infrastructure or engineering contracts, with experience of NEC or similar standard forms being advantageous.
  • Leadership capability with experience managing, mentoring or supporting commercial teams and influencing operational, financial and client stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, procurement, subcontract management, supply chain risk and commercial governance.
  • Experience managing commercial risks, opportunities, claims, contract entitlement and final account strategies.
  • Strong quantity surveying knowledge across pre-contract, mobilisation, delivery, closeout and post-contract phases.
  • Ability to provide clear, accurate and commercially focused reporting, including risks, opportunities, cash, margin and corrective actions.

Salary / Package: Circa: 80,000 - 86,000 DOE plus package including a car/allowance of 5,400.
