Our client is a recognised engineering consultancy within the UK rail sector, providing technical solutions, project support and strategic engineering expertise across rolling stock, infrastructure and systems. As they continue to expand their UK presence, they are looking to strengthen their Business Development function with a driven Account & Partnership Manager who can grow existing relationships while developing new opportunities in emerging markets. Our client has an excellent track record of internal promotion and developing talent within the business.

About the Role

As an Account Manager, you’ll play a key part in driving business growth across the UK rail industry. You’ll manage and develop key customer accounts, identify new market opportunities and build strategic partnerships that align with the company’s long-term objectives. This is a hands-on, commercially focused role where you’ll be involved in everything from pipeline management and tender preparation to networking at industry events. You’ll work closely with senior leadership and technical teams to position the company as a trusted delivery partner for complex engineering projects.

The key requirements for this Account Manager role are:

  • Develop and grow existing client accounts within the UK rail sector
  • Identify, target and secure new customers, markets and revenue streams
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships and account plans
  • Identify and engage potential technical and commercial partners to support business objectives
  • Work closely with the Business Development Manager to develop bid strategies and support tender submissions
  • Represent the business at client meetings, industry functions and networking events
  • Monitor market intelligence and competitor activity to identify trends and opportunities
  • Ensure all activity supports company growth targets and aligns with strategic objectives

Experience required for this Account Manager role are:

  • Strong background in sales, business development or account management within the rail industry
  • Knowledge of rail clients, asset owners, and supply chain organisations
  • Proven experience developing new business and managing key customer relationships
  • Strong commercial understanding and negotiation skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation ability
  • Self-motivated, proactive and confident working independently
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable knowledge, skills and experience for this Account Manager role are:

  • Experience working with rolling stock, infrastructure or engineering consultancies
  • Understanding of framework agreements, bidding and tender processes
