The Senior Estimator sits within the work winning function, working closely with bid management, planning, procurement, technical, HSQE and operational teams to develop accurate and competitive tender pricing.

The Senior Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed and accurate pricing for tenders and supporting clients with pricing during early contractor involvement projects. The role covers the full estimating process, including developing labour, plant, material, subcontract and temporary works costs, assessing risks and opportunities, and preparing final tender submissions. You will also support settlement meetings, successful bid handovers and reviews of unsuccessful tenders to help inform future pricing strategies.

The key responsibilities for this role are:

  • Prepare detailed and accurate tender pricing
  • Coordinate with Bid Managers to develop competitive pricing
  • Agree methodologies and outputs with planners and design teams
  • Advise on cost-effective design options
  • Price alternative design solutions
  • Review bills of quantities and activity schedules
  • Arrange quantity take-offs and quantity checks where required
  • Develop labour rates and scheme-specific labour calculations
  • Develop plant rates and reconcile plant requirements with the Planner
  • Compare material costs and supplier quotations
  • Coordinate supplier enquiries with Procurement
  • Assess subcontractor quotations and prepare comparison sheets
  • Agree subcontractor selections with Procurement and Bid Managers
  • Agree temporary works requirements and costs
  • Develop staff, shift and overtime costs
  • Determine preliminaries costs with the Planner
  • Contribute to tender risk and opportunity registers
  • Prepare tender summaries and supporting pricing documentation
  • Present pricing at pre-settlement and settlement meetings
  • Prepare pricing adjustments following settlement
  • Prepare final pricing documentation for tender submission
  • Support the production of tender and contract documentation
  • Address post-tender client clarifications and amendments
  • Prepare pricing handover documentation for successful bids
  • Attend bid handover meetings
  • Review feedback from unsuccessful tenders

Experience required for this role includes:

  • Extensive experience within civil engineering and construction
  • Sound knowledge of civil engineering and construction techniques
  • Experience preparing detailed tender estimates
  • Experience pricing labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and preliminaries
  • Experience working with procurement and supply chain quotations
  • Commercial awareness of different forms of contract
  • Knowledge of relevant procurement legislation
  • Detailed knowledge of estimating software packages
  • Ability to work closely with bid management, planning, procurement, technical and operational teams
