The Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed and accurate pricing for tenders, as well as supporting clients with pricing during early contractor involvement projects. You will work across the full estimating process, from reviewing quantities and developing labour, plant and material rates through to subcontractor pricing, risk, final settlement and tender submission. The role also involves supporting successful bid handovers and reviewing unsuccessful tenders to identify opportunities for future improvements.

The key responsibilities for this Estimator role are:

  • Prepare detailed and accurate tender pricing
  • Coordinate with Bid Managers to develop competitive prices
  • Agree methodologies and outputs with planners and design teams
  • Advise on cost-effective design options
  • Price alternative design solutions
  • Review client bills of quantities and activity schedules
  • Complete quantity take-offs where required
  • Develop labour and plant rates
  • Calculate scheme-specific labour rates where required
  • Compare material costs and supplier quotations
  • Coordinate material enquiries with procurement
  • Review and assess subcontractor quotations
  • Prepare subcontractor comparison sheets
  • Agree temporary works requirements and costs
  • Develop staff and preliminaries costs
  • Contribute to tender risk and opportunity registers
  • Prepare tender summaries and supporting pricing documentation
  • Present pricing at settlement meetings
  • Prepare adjustments following settlement
  • Support final tender submissions
  • Address post-tender client clarifications and amendments
  • Prepare pricing handover documentation for successful bids
  • Review tender feedback from unsuccessful bids

Experience required for this Estimator role are:

  • Experience working within civil engineering and construction
  • Sound knowledge of civil engineering and construction techniques
  • Experience preparing tender estimates and pricing
  • Experience developing costs for labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and preliminaries
  • Commercial awareness of different forms of contract
  • Knowledge of relevant procurement legislation
  • Experience using estimating software packages
  • Ability to work collaboratively with bid, planning, procurement, technical and operational teams
