What is Recruitment Really Like?
Recruitment is a fast-paced, target-driven sales career. A large part of your day will be spent speaking to people on the phone. You'll make outbound calls to candidates and clients, build relationships, develop business and work towards clear activity and performance targets. Some conversations will go really well. Others won't. Candidates will turn down jobs, clients will say no and there will be days where things don't go to plan. Being able to pick yourself back up, learn from what happened and keep going is a big part of becoming successful in recruitment. For the right person, however, it can offer excellent earning potential, rapid career progression and the opportunity to build a genuine long-term career.
What You'll Be Doing
- Speaking to candidates to understand their experience, motivations and career goals
- Sourcing candidates using job boards, databases, LinkedIn and networking
- Making outbound and cold calls to candidates and potential clients
- Building long-term relationships with candidates and businesses
- Understanding client recruitment requirements
- Identifying and presenting suitable candidates to clients
- Generating leads and identifying new business opportunities
- Developing relationships with new clients
- Preparing candidates for interviews and gathering feedback
- Negotiating salaries, rates and job offers
- Managing candidates and clients throughout the recruitment process
- Working towards individual and team recruitment and sales targets
Training From Day One
We don't expect you to arrive knowing how recruitment works. New Trainee Recruitment Consultants start with our dedicated Training Bay, where you'll learn the fundamentals of recruitment from the ground up. You'll learn how to:
- Speak confidently to candidates and clients
- Structure recruitment and sales calls
- Find and qualify candidates
- Understand job requirements
- Generate leads and business opportunities
- Handle objections
- Prepare candidates for interviews
- Negotiate and close
- Manage your time, activity and recruitment desk
Your development doesn't stop when the Training Bay finishes. You'll continue through our structured recruitment module programme alongside regular coaching from our Learning & Development team, your manager and experienced recruiters around you. The aim is simple: to give you the skills, knowledge and confidence you need to become a successful Recruitment Consultant.
What We're Looking For
Previous recruitment experience isn't required. We're much more interested in your attitude, potential and willingness to learn. You'll probably enjoy and succeed in this role if you are:
- Ambitious - you want to progress and achieve something
- Resilient - you can deal with setbacks and keep going
- Driven - you're prepared to put the work in to become successful
- Coach-able - you listen to feedback and put it into practice
- Confident - you're willing to speak to new people and pick up the phone
- Competitive - you enjoy targets and achieving results
- Positive and engaging - you can build rapport and relationships with people
- Commercially minded - you're interested in sales, business and earning potential
- Determined - when things get difficult, you look for a way forward rather than giving up
You will need to be comfortable making outbound and cold calls as this is an important part of the role. Experience within sales, retail, hospitality, customer service, telesales, account management or business development can be useful but it isn't essential. Graduates and people looking to start their first professional sales career are also encouraged to apply.
