- Experience in heavy engineering
- Welding steel to acceptable tolerances
- Assisting to create steel frames and unit builds as well as supporting refit and repair operations.
- Understand and have the ability to work from Engineering drawings
- Ensure the proper handling of machines, product and tooling at all times.
- At the end of each shift ensure shut down off all welding equipment and gas connection.
- Produce work to the Navantia Quality standard.
- Responsible for reporting any faults or damage to the machine and its tooling to Management.
- Produce vertical and overhead welds to Navantia Quality standard required.
- To be able to weld and fabricate to a high standard with an eye for detail. Mainly flux core and Solid Mig
- Experience with overhead cranes and lifting equipment
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces

- Demonstrate a positive attitude towards improving the culture in the workplace, stop and report any activity you feel might cause injury or damage, ensuring that everyone works safely at all times.
- Follows and adhere to any control measures required under the Safety, Environmental and Quality Management Systems.
- Ensure good house-keeping of work areas at all times.
QUALITY
- Undertake inspection of parts, sub-assemblies and finished products to ensure dimensional accuracy, quality and solid working function.
- Support the company in maintaining and improving our ISO 9001 (quality), 14001 (environmental), 45001 (health and safety) standards through adherence to the Navantia Management Systems this is the responsibility of all Navantia employees when conducting all processes and activities.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Time served welder either in a shipyard or similar field activity where structural fabrication was undertaken.
- Relevant qualification, indentured apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds etc.
- Basic knowledge of welding processes.
- Flux Core Welding is desirable.
- Understanding of dimensional control techniques such as Electronic Distance Measuring (EDM).
- Understanding of engineered drawings and technical documents.
- Knowledge and compliance of work place safety.
- Work execution independently according to valid instructions, rules and other standards.
- Flexible cooperation with other team-members.
Key Interpersonal/Behavioral Skills:
- Ability to establish an appropriate course of action for self and/or others to accomplish a goal.
- Effectiveness in identifying possible problems for upward reporting/investigation.
- Ability to express ideas or facts in a clear manner.
- Professional and pro-active work ethic.
