As an Environmental & Sustainability Advisor, you will lead and support environmental and sustainability initiatives across the organisation. You will ensure compliance with environmental legislation, drive continuous improvement in sustainability performance, and help integrate environmentally responsible practices into business operations. This position ensures that all activities across the shipyard are aligned with environmental legislation and corporate sustainability goals.
- Ensure all shipbuilding and repair operations comply with local, national, and international environmental regulations.
- Conduct environmental ISO audits, site inspections, and aspect / impact assessments across shipyard facilities.
- Monitor and manage compliance related to hazardous materials, paint/coatings, emissions, and waste handling.
- Monitor emissions, water discharges, noise levels, and waste generation within the yard in line with permitting and licensing requirements.
- Lead or support initiatives related to oil spill prevention, chemical storage, and stormwater management.
- Work with engineering and production teams to minimise the environmental impact of welding, blasting, and painting activities.
- Deliver toolbox talks, environmental training, and awareness campaigns to shipyard staff, contractors, and suppliers.
- Foster a culture of environmental responsibility through regular communication and engagement.
- Support successful delivery of the ISO 14001 Management system.
- Prepare reports and dashboards for internal stakeholders, clients, and regulators.
- Track and report on environmental KPIs and support Carbon & ESG reporting as required.
Qualifications
- Degree in Environmental Science, Marine Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
- Experience in an environmental or sustainability role within heavy industry (preferably shipbuilding, marine, or offshore).
- Knowledge of marine environmental regulations and standards.
- Experience conducting site inspections and environmental audits.
Desirable:
- Certifications such as NEBOSH Environmental, IEMA, ISO 14001 Lead Auditor.
- Experience in shipbuilding, maritime or heavy engineering sectors.
