Engineering Technician (Drafting)

You will serve as an Engineering Technician (Drafting) in the Design Division, Planning, Design and Construction Directorate of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

• You will provide advice, solutions and assist the design and/or construction lead engineer on technical issues.
• You will support designs for existing facilities requiring extensive alterations, modifications, or repair.
• You will provide design and other technical support to NAVFAC MIDLANT and the commands served.
• You will prepare technical specifications and detailed labor and material cost estimates for use in obtaining project funding and bid for evaluation.
• You will prepare scopes of work and man-hour estimates for in-house work.

Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
• New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level.
• Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
• This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA).
• Certification in the Functional Area and Tier assigned to the position, along with Continuous Learning (CL) points, are required within established timeframes.
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• You may be assigned to a similar position at any site or workstation within the commuting area.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

• Preparation of designs, specifications and cost estimates for a wide range of shore facility projects;
• Designs for facilities requiring extensive alterations, modifications or repair to extend their useful life to meet demands placed upon shore facilities;
• Reviews project plans, specifications and submittals prior to contract award and during execution for technical soundness, compliance with Navy requirements and to determine practicability from a construction management standpoint.

• This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements.
• Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
