You will serve as the Technical Director of the Navy Crane Center in the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC).

Duties:

  • Serve as the final technical authority for the Department of Navy (DON) on the shore‑based weight handling program.
  • Serve as the technical expert in the development of policies governing Navy‑wide management of weight handling equipment.
  • Develop and maintain policies, establish training requirements, audit compliance with program standards, offer in‑service technical support and manage acquisition of weight handling equipment.
  • Develop and maintain policies related to the design criteria, maintenance, testing, certification and operation of weight handling equipment used at Navy shore activities.
  • Provide the highest levels of engineering consultation, guidance, expertise and continuity in the Command.

TQ 1: Knowledge of Crane Engineering Principles and Standards.

TQ 2: Knowledge of Regulations, Policies, and Standards for Weight Handling Equipment.

Education:

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

  • A degree in Engineering. Successful completion of a bachelor’s or higher engineering degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Combination of education and experience – college‑level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering.

An advanced degree of Master’s or Ph.D. in one of the educational fields listed above is highly desirable.

This position is a Senior Level position in the federal government. Senior Level employees are in non‑executive positions whose duties are broad and complex enough to be classified above GS‑15 level. Senior level positions involve highly specialized and complex work.
