Naughton Contracts Limited (NCL) is currently seeking to engage specialist gangs for an upcoming project in Newcastle. We are looking to hear from experienced gangs and individual operatives across the following trades:
- General Groundworkers
- Machine Operators
- Fencers
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing civil engineering contractor working on high-profile infrastructure projects across the UK.
Skills & Experience Required
General Groundworkers
Experience
- Proven experience working as a Groundworker on civil engineering or construction sites. Experience in excavation, drainage, kerbing, concreting, and utilities installation. Experience working on infrastructure, residential, or commercial groundworks projects.
Knowledge
- Good understanding of groundworks processes, sequencing, and site safety practices. Awareness of safe digging procedures and underground services. Basic understanding of drawings and setting-out information.
Qualifications
- Valid CSCS card.
- CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test certification.
- Right to Work documentation.
Skills
- Competent in the use of hand tools and small plant/equipment. Ability to read and work from site drawings and setting-out information. Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Good teamworking skills and ability to follow instructions from supervisors.
Machine Operators
Experience
- Proven experience operating plant on civil engineering or groundworks sites. Experience with excavation, muck shifting, trench work, or material handling. Experience working to line and level under supervision of engineers/supervisors.
Knowledge
- Strong awareness of plant safety, exclusion zones, and banksman procedures. Understanding of daily plant checks, maintenance requirements, and fault reporting. Awareness of ground conditions and safe operating practices around excavations and services.
Qualifications
- Valid CPCS or NPORS ticket(s) for relevant plant (e.g. 360 excavator, dumper, roller, telehandler).
- Valid CSCS card.
- CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test certification.
- Right to Work documentation.
Skills
- Ability to operate plant accurately and safely to line and level. Ability to interpret setting-out instructions from engineers. Reliable, safety-conscious approach to daily operations.
- Good communication skills, able to work closely with banksmen and site teams.
Fencers
Experience
- Proven experience installing a range of fencing types, including timber, palisade, and security/chain-link fencing. Experience working on civil engineering, construction, or infrastructure sites. Experience with post-hole digging, concreting posts, and ground preparation.
Knowledge
- Understanding of fencing specifications, boundary lines, and site drawings. Awareness of site health & safety practices relevant to fencing installation. Basic understanding of ground conditions and safe excavation for post installation.
Qualifications
- Valid CSCS card.
- CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test certification.
- Right to Work documentation.
Skills
- Competent using relevant hand and power tools for fencing installation. Ability to read drawings and work to specified levels and boundary lines. Good attention to detail, ensuring fencing is installed securely and to specification.
- Comfortable working independently or as part of a small team on-site.
