Role Description
The Health and Safety Manager is a full-time role based in Hatfield, part office based with site visits to UK projects.
This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety policies and procedures across civil engineering and construction activities.
Day-to-day tasks include conducting site inspections and risk assessments, monitoring compliance with relevant legislation, and ensuring safe systems of work are in place.
The role involves delivering safety inductions and training, investigating incidents and near misses, and preparing reports and corrective action plans.
The Health and Safety Manager will collaborate with project managers, site supervisors, and clients to promote a strong safety culture and continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
Qualifications
- Experience in civil engineering, concrete works, or groundworks projects, and familiarity with data centres or industrial facilities.
- Demonstrated expertise in health and safety management within construction or civil engineering, including risk assessment, method statements, and safe systems of work.
- Strong knowledge of relevant UK and EU health and safety legislation, regulations, and industry standards, with the ability to apply them on active project sites.
- Proficiency in incident reporting, root cause analysis, and preparation of clear documentation, policies, and procedures.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deliver training, influence site teams, and engage with clients and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work on-site, manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Recognized health and safety qualification (e. g., NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate, or equivalent) and membership or working toward membership of a professional safety body (e. g., IOSH) are highly beneficial.
- Competence in using digital tools for reporting, audits, and safety management systems.
