Join us as a Specialist Client Manager. In this vital role, you'll take ownership of a portfolio of higher-risk Corporate and Commercial clients, where your decisions directly impact business survival and the bank’s risk position. Working within the Commercial & Institutional (C&I) portfolio management function, you’ll own the end-to-end credit delivery activity for a portfolio of complex corporate and commercial clients. You’ll join a deeply experienced team operating at the forefront of complex, in-life client situations across NatWest’s Commercial & Institutional bank.

What you'll do

This is not a typical portfolio or relationship role. You’ll operate in a heightened monitoring environment, proactively identifying risk, engaging customers early, and shaping strategies to stabilise or exit positions. As a Specialist Client Manager, you’ll be overseeing the relationship with customers and credit stewardship activity as well as assisting senior management in the development of client risk management capability within the business. You’ll also manage key stakeholder relationships to enable consistently good customer outcomes and a collaborative approach.

  • Proactively monitoring a portfolio of corporate and commercial clients, identifying emerging risks before they become critical.
  • Engaging directly with customers on a regular basis to understand challenges, shape recovery strategies and deliver key client messages and execute agreed risk mitigation strategies.
  • Owning the credit delivery process and acting as a point of contact for stakeholders to make sure the operation runs smoothly, including undertaking client facility reviews in a timely manner and in line with credit policy.
  • Identify and respond to potential fraud risk, taking appropriate action to mitigate losses and protect the bank.
  • Identifying clients who need an audit, offering support where needed and proactively engaging with the banks panel of external professional advisers.
  • Utilising the banks systems to actively manage live facilities in line with the agreed client strategy.
  • Proactively partnering with commercial client managers to review and optimise in-life portfolios through structured, regular portfolio reviews.

The skills you'll need

You’ll bring a strong understanding of corporate banking and working capital products. It would be desirable to have working knowledge of invoice finance products and software applications as well as the wider working capital sales products and services. However, training and upskilling can be provided. You’ll also have the ability to analyse financial and collateral information as well as articulating conclusions and developing appropriate strategies, presenting a strong analytical skill. In addition, you’ll have or be working towards the Chartered Banker Diploma in Lending Skills and have strong negotiation, organisational and planning skills.

  • The ability to balance customer outcomes with risk management, making sound, commercially aware decisions.
  • Experience working across multiple stakeholders, including credit teams, risk functions, and external advisers.
  • A proactive mindset, someone who spots issues early and takes ownership.
  • Confidence in handling sensitive, high-stakes client conversations.
  • Strong resilience and judgement in situations where there may not be clear or easy answers.

Why Join us?

You’ll gain exposure to situations most roles never see—from early risk identification through to restructuring, fraud management, and recovery. The role has significantly evolved in the past 18 months, offering broader ownership and greater influence across the full client lifecycle. You’ll work alongside a highly experienced team, building expertise that typically takes years to develop. No two days are the same - this is a diverse, hands-on role spanning sectors, products, and complex client scenarios. You’ll play a key role in supporting businesses through challenging periods, with genuine impact on their outcomes. The breadth of exposure makes this a powerful platform for future progression across credit risk, restructuring, and senior client management roles.
