Join us as a Mainframe Infrastructure Engineer
- Recognised as a hands-on technical subject matter expert, you\’ll lead a team of Mainframe Analysts in a critical on-site 24/7 fast paced environment, utilising your experience to role model engineering practices in order to provide a high quality service and deliver strategic outcomes
- You\’ll leverage SRE and DevOps principles to develop and maintain automation, reducing manual and repetitive tasks and human errors, and removing inefficiencies
- This is a chance to work with colleagues across the bank to share engineering best practices, allowing you to provide thought leadership while developing, configuring, and managing products and tooling to meet our current and future requirements
What you\’ll do
As a Mainframe Infrastructure Engineer, you\’ll contribute to and manage the selection, creation, and maintenance of technologies required to meet the needs of our customers, strategic targets, and architecture outcomes. You\’ll also develop products using modern engineering practices and tools.
We\’ll look to you to collaborate with product owners to develop product roadmaps and manage the lifecycle of the team\’s products. As well as supporting engineered products to respond to customer feedback and new feature requests, you\’ll resolve production issues and help customers consume our products.
Additionally, you\’ll:
- People manage a team, developing skillsets and capabilities to support strategic outcomes
- Develop technical skills through continuous learning and development
- Support strategic observability, maintaining a strong awareness of service, creating operational views of data, and supporting the development of targets for the team to deliver against
- Provide operational support for product and service issues, acting as technical escalation for the technologies supported by your team
- Liaise with SysOps leadership, product owners, and other stakeholders to maintain and deliver the workload backlog for the team, with a focus on introducing automation and removing inefficiencies
The skills you\’ll need
To thrive in this role, you\’ll have proven experience managing a technical operations team and an understanding of the capabilities and technologies that the team delivers. Along with experience working in an Agile team using Scrum and Kanban through tools such as Jira, you\’ll have a good understanding of Agile working practices and toolsets.
Experience of DevOps practices such as CI/CD pipelines would be advantageous, as would experience of Python, Terraform, Ansible, and PowerShell.
Furthermore, you\’ll need:
- Experience using observability tools and techniques with the ability to use data, information, and user sentiment to continuously improve solutions
- Extensive experience of mainframe technologies such as IBM Z Series hardware, as well as IBM and Broadcom products including CA7, CICS, DB2, Connect:Direct, RACF, MQ, and WebSphere
- Experience of tooling such as Grafana, Splunk, and ServiceNow
- Strong collaborative communication skills for articulating technical concepts clearly to stakeholders
- A strong understanding of the management and execution of controls
