Join us as a Software Engineer, Backend. This is an opportunity for a driven Software Engineer to take on an exciting new career challenge. Day-to-day, you'll be engineering and maintaining innovative, customer centric, high performance, secure and robust solutions. What you'll do:

  • Working within a feature team to engineer software, scripts and tools, as well as liaising with other engineers, architects and business analysts across the platform.
  • Producing complex and critical software rapidly and of high quality which adds value to the business.
  • Working in permanent teams who are responsible for the full life cycle, from initial development, through enhancement and maintenance to replacement or decommissioning.
  • Collaborating to optimise our software engineering capability.
  • Designing, producing, testing and implementing our working software solutions.
  • Working across the life cycle, from requirements analysis and design, through coding to testing, deployment and operations.

The skills you'll need:

  • Experience of working with Continuous Deployment practices in production environments.
  • Experience building and operating backend services in cloud native environments, using technologies such as Spring Boot, with an understanding of automation as a core engineering principle.
  • Comfortable contributing to the development of reliable and resilient systems, working as part of a team to deliver high quality API based services.
  • Exposure to agentic coding practices where it adds value would be hugely beneficial.
  • Experience building backend services and APIs, with an understanding of RESTful design principles such as versioning, monitoring, and basic observability.
  • Some exposure to distributed systems and event‑driven architectures such as Kafka would be beneficial.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team that values autonomy and empowerment, with a focus on delivering quality outcomes.
  • Experience or exposure to working in cloud native, distributed environments, with an awareness of resilience and failure handling concepts.
