Join us as a Controls Manager in Business Governance. In this collaborative role, you'll work with a number of risk and control teams to identify risks and address any identified gaps, managing any incidents or issues raised through front line customer contact. Alongside your core portfolio, you'll have opportunities to contribute to priorities across the wider team, broaden your experience and understand how customer, control, regulatory and resilience matters connect across Everyday Banking. This role offers varied and meaningful work, exposure to stakeholders across the bank and the opportunity to help create safer, simpler and better outcomes for customers while developing your career.

What you'll do:

  • This role will see you delivering tasks and activities related to the ongoing management of risk issues within the business.
  • You'll monitor and analyse operational conduct and regulatory risks, and identify related issues and areas requiring improvement.
  • Additionally, you'll take day-to-day ownership of agreed activity within your pillar, building a clear understanding of the risk, the required outcome and the evidence needed to demonstrate effective delivery.
  • We'll look to you to deliver against channel and central actions, in line with the risk appetite and direction set by management, as well as supporting an effective and efficient assurance function, meeting all policy standards, legal and regulatory requirements and expectations.
  • You'll work closely with pillar leads and business stakeholders to maintain momentum, surface concerns early and support sustainable resolution.
  • On top of this, you'll be:
    • Delivering and coordinating defined governance, risk, control, assurance or regulatory activity within your primary pillar, with clear plans, evidence and reporting.
    • Monitoring actions, issues and dependencies, following up with owners and escalating where progress, evidence or outcomes are at risk.
    • Producing clear, accurate insight and updates for governance forums and senior stakeholders, drawing out the decision, action or escalation required.
    • Supporting integrated system and data solutions that improve efficiency, insight and the sustainability of controls.
    • Sharing knowledge and providing practical support across the other governance pillars when priorities or development opportunities arise.
    • Developing and improving the assurance toolset to support a robust process that develops the right outcomes for the organisation.
    • Leading and executing the development and delivery of an annual risk based assurance programme.
    • Developing, implementing and supporting integrated system solutions that drive efficiency savings.

The skills you'll need:

  • You'll need excellent communication skills as you'll be building strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organisation, developing and using both internal and external networks.
  • You'll be organised, curious and comfortable working across several priorities, with the confidence to question and constructively challenge where information or evidence is unclear.
  • A background in assurance and risk management methodologies will be required, as will a good understanding of the application of operational risk in a financial services environment.
  • You'll also be able to connect detailed activity to the wider customer, regulatory and business outcomes.
  • You'll also bring:
    • Experience of operating in an audit, assurance, controls, governance or regulatory change function.
    • The ability to analyse information, identify material themes and produce clear, concise written outputs.
    • Strong delivery discipline, including the ability to track actions, maintain evidence and elevate blockers promptly.
    • An ability to manage and influence relationships with stakeholders of all levels and build positive working relationships.
    • An appetite to build expertise in a core portfolio while learning from and contributing to the wider team.
    • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Copilot.
