Join us as a Financial Control & Reporting Manager. In this role, you will provide analysis and design for a wide range of finance systems, operational accounting, and finance processes. We’ll look to you to take ownership for end-to-end systems accounting models for finance and to support other teams to deliver end-to-end financial control activity. This is an opportunity to represent Finance on core strategic bank programmes.

What you will do:

  • You will be accountable for the delivery of solutions that automate the double-entry accounting across multiple finance-owned systems for a variety of business events.
  • You will act as a key partner as you proactively contribute to decision-making and problem-solving on complex or specialist issues, demonstrating sound judgement and a thorough understanding of the business.
  • Using in-depth knowledge of transaction capture and finance ledger system functionality, in conjunction with a sound understanding of accounting principles and standards, you will support the development and design of robust, fit-for-purpose accounting solutions.
  • You will assist financial control teams and auditors in understanding the historical business events that underlie balances on the Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss.
  • You will be responsible for managing and delivering finance data and system change, executed within the appropriate governance framework to maintain data integrity and data quality standards throughout the change process.

In addition, you will be:

  • Exploring and recommending operational accounting and finance process options whilst understanding the wider change environment.
  • Managing risks and issues through timely identification, recording, and actions to mitigate impacts.
  • Acting as a relationship manager and effectively maintaining relationships with stakeholders.
  • Leading continuous improvement activity, pursuing opportunities to simplify and standardise team processes and outputs.
  • Developing your own capability to meet the changing needs of the bank, while providing knowledge transfer and coaching to other colleagues to help them meet their personal development goals.

The skills you will need:

We are looking for someone with an inquisitive nature to take on a new challenge, putting their analytical and problem-solving skills to good use. You will need to have experience demonstrating how the transactions for a variety of business events are recorded in finance systems and how they impact balances in the Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss, using that understanding to solve problems and support change initiatives. Ideally, this will be in an environment with multiple connected finance systems.

To succeed in this role, you will also need to bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in financial control, preferably gained within financial services. You must have worked in a global context and have the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders in a changing environment. Moreover, you will need to hold a recognised professional accounting qualification or at least have comparable and relevant work-experience history.

In addition, you will need:

  • Up-to-date knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards, an astute eye for detail, and excellent communication skills for clearly and succinctly articulating issues to senior management.
  • Demonstrable commitment to continuous improvement activity and experience in developing operating models.
  • Practical experience in developing and documenting the end-to-end accounting models for finance.
  • Detailed knowledge of the end-to-end accounting models for banking and trading products, from transaction capture systems to the general ledger.
  • Practical experience working with databases, using Structured Query Language (SQL) and/or reporting-system querying tools to self-serve data extracts to meet ad-hoc data requirements.
