Join us in this dynamic role, where you'll have the chance to make a real impact by contributing to the product design and experience design strategy, as well as leading the delivery of associated strategic initiatives. You'll lead product design for mid-size and increasingly complex projects, ensuring designs are user-centred, inclusive, and aligned with experience design, business objectives, and enterprise strategies. This is an opportunity for you, as an evolving leader, to lead cross-functional teams toward achieving project goals and best-in-class solutions, while continuing to develop your leadership skills and capabilities. We are offering this role for a period of 12 months.
What you’ll do:
- Lead the scoping, direction, and planning of product design for mid-size and increasingly complex projects and programmes, while also contributing to the development of product strategy.
- Ensure that designs are user-centred, engaging, and functionally effective, supported by validated insights and aligned with business requirements.
- Drive the execution of design across initiatives, innovating within defined constraints and balancing originality with usability, brand consistency, and technical feasibility to deliver impactful, scalable solutions.
- Act as an escalation point, remove blockers to maintain momentum and quality, and make informed design decisions within your defined authority so that all outputs support project objectives and business goals.
- Foster strong collaboration across design disciplines and other functions, engaging key stakeholders to ensure alignment and effective delivery of projects, programmes, and strategic initiatives.
- Create, evolve, and promote design guidelines and standards to drive consistency, scalability, and high-quality outcomes across the bank.
- Continuously develop your own expertise, including leadership skills, while coaching, mentoring, and providing constructive feedback to colleagues.
- Play an important role in strengthening the overall maturity of the design practice.
In addition, you’ll be:
- Enabling collaboration across multiple disciplines and functions for programmes and complex projects, ensuring clarity on responsibilities and deliverables for each discipline.
- Communicating the value and impact of product design decisions for projects and programmes to a wide range of audiences in a clear and compelling way.
- Acting as a key contact for stakeholders, managing expectations, influencing decisions, and resolving risks, conflicts, and alignment issues within defined authority and escalating when necessary.
- Shaping and evolving guidelines and standards to drive scalability, consistency, quality, accessibility, and inclusion in product design, ensuring all outputs comply with necessary regulations.
- Supporting product design capability by coaching and mentoring colleagues, sharing best practices, contributing to community engagement, and proactively improving your own product design skills.
The skills you’ll need:
We’re looking for someone with a strong understanding of user-centred design and a comprehensive knowledge of digital product design within complex systems, including architecture, visualisation, and prototyping. You must also have a solid grasp of how to embed accessibility and inclusion into design. Experience delivering product design for mid-size and increasingly complex projects and programmes, informed and validated by user research, is essential too. This should be supported by a portfolio that demonstrates end-to-end design thinking from discovery through to UX exploration and UI delivery. The portfolio should showcase visually engaging product design, user-centred solutions, and clear rationale behind key design decisions.
To succeed in this role, you’ll need experience working in multidisciplinary teams and collaborating effectively with cross-functional partners, along with proven leadership skills. Strong stakeholder management is also key, with a focus on clear communication, effective expectation management, and the ability to present the rationale behind your work while advocating for the value and impact of design.
In addition, you’ll need:
- Experience defining and leading design projects and programmes at pace, using agile delivery methods.
- Strong skills in design thinking, user experience design, interface design, information architecture, and prototyping.
- Experience supporting product design capability development including coaching and mentoring, as well as sharing constructive feedback and knowledge with colleagues.
- Experience working with complex corporate banking platforms, products, and services would be beneficial.
