NatureScot needs to diversify its funding model and increase the scale of income generation and cost recovery across the organisation. Broadening our funding beyond our grant‑in‑aid is essential to support NatureScot's mission to protect and restore Scotland's nature in the face of the twin challenges of the biodiversity crisis and the climate emergency.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide programme leadership for the management, promotion and delivery of income generation and cost recovery in NatureScot.
- Develop NatureScot's Roadmap for our commercial journey, including required policy, tools, governance and guidance, to support income generation in NatureScot.
- Prepare and regularly review the Roadmap, programme plan, and report on milestones, risks and issues to the Income Generation Steering Group (IGSG).
- Support the conclusion of the NNR car parking charging pilot and deliver next steps associated with wider roll out.
- Work with business leads to co‑ordinate/oversee the development of income generation opportunities within NatureScot.
- Explore, develop and make recommendations on potential mechanisms to enhance NatureScot's ability to attract, retain and invest new sources of income.
- Capture and apply lessons learned from different income generation activities to support a consistent approach across NatureScot.
- Lead on planning and delivery of communications to promote the programme's outputs.
- Develop a network across other public bodies to better understand models for income generation, trading & philanthropy that could be relevant to NatureScot.
- Work with the Income Generation Support Accountant, and other colleagues as needed, to ensure that the programme management, financial, auditing governance and reporting requirements are fully met.
- Ensure implementation of audit recommendations from the 2025 Audit Report on Income Generation & Cost Recovery.
- Provide support to the Nature Finance Governance Board, including all compliance requirements, ensuring good project and risk management, and overseeing completion of reporting and assessment in place to support delivery of the programme.
Role Requirements
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience in establishing commercial & business development opportunities.
- A flexible and confident approach to programme, project and risk management, with a proven ability to engage effectively with others to deliver results.
- The ability to plan and manage challenging workloads, to work to deadlines, to adapt to changing and often competing priorities.
- Well‑developed communication skills, including the ability to communicate commercial information clearly and simply, and to build trusted relationships at all levels to influence key stakeholders.
- Strong business acumen and analytical skills, with experience in developing business cases, new business models and revenue generation.
- Experience of change management, including an ability to assess the effect of changes on the organisation and to identify challenges and make recommendations to resolve them.
- An understanding of NatureScot's priorities, together with an appreciation of the political environment in which NatureScot operates.
Pre‑requisites Required
- Driving licence or other means of transport.
- Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK and resident in Scotland for the duration of the job contract.
- To undertake a Disclosure Scotland application.
- Although Gaelic language is not a prerequisite, it is a desirable skill in support of our commitment to our Gaelic Language.
