At Naturalmat we’ve been hand making organic beds & mattresses at our workshop on the banks of the river Exe in Devon since 1999. We buy all of our raw materials direct from source, we manufacture everything ourselves and we only sell direct to customer via our own showrooms and website. It’s this level of control that allows us to offer the best possible product and experience to our customers.

Sustainability has been at our core since day one. We’ve always used natural, organic materials from renewable sources, we pioneered sustainable packaging and installed solar panels on the roof of our workshop. This year we won the King’s Award for Sustainability and are the first B Corp certified bed & mattress company in the UK.

We recently opened a new head office, workshop & showroom on our existing site in Topsham and are fortunate to be growing fast as a business. We currently have showrooms in London, Devon, Dorking, Knutsford and the Cotswolds, and plan to open more around the country each year.

About the role

Our showrooms are where the Naturalmat brand really comes to life. Unlike most bed shops that line up row after row of mattresses under bright white lights, our showrooms are tasteful, calm and welcoming spaces where we encourage customers to spend a good amount of time (often hours!) finding the right bed and mattress for them. It’s an extremely personal choice and the service provided by our team is the most important element of that visit in ensuring they find the right one for them.

The Showroom Consultant role supports the Showroom Manager to ensure that every customer that walks through the door receives impeccable service. Our showroom teams also manage our customer service, so all online enquiries and phone calls are dealt with by our stores.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure customers receive the very best experience wherever they are on their Naturalmat journey, whether they’re visiting the store, or getting in touch over the phone or email
  • Product knowledge across the range of beds, mattresses, bedding and nursery products (training provided)
  • To assist with local outreach, grow sales and brand awareness
  • To maintain consistently high standards of product presentation throughout the showroom
  • To accurately process customer’s estimates, orders and sales
  • To build strong relationships with the head office team and other showrooms
  • Be a Naturalmat ambassador at all times

About you

  • You have retail experience in a sales assistant or consultant capacity
  • Experience working in furniture retail or luxury sales would be ideal, but not crucial
  • Experience working with POS platforms such as Shopify
  • An interest in interiors, furniture & sustainability
  • You enjoy working with others to get stuff done
  • You’re hardworking & reliable – if you say you’re going to do something, you do it

Details

  • Full-time role 38.50 hours a week
  • Saturday to Wednesday schedule
  • Based at our showroom near Chiswick, London
  • Discretionary company bonus twice a year
  • 33 days holiday including public holidays (on a pro rata basis)
  • Additional holiday the longer you’re at Naturalmat
  • Training provided

How to prepare for a job interview at Naturalmat

Show Off Your Customer Service Skills

Retail is all about providing an exceptional customer experience, so be ready to discuss your past customer service stories. We should have examples on hand of how we've handled difficult situations or gone above and beyond to meet a customer's needs. These anecdotes will bring your application to life!

Familiarity with Point of Sale Systems

Many retail roles require us to work with Point of Sale (POS) systems, so it's a good idea to brush up on any relevant software you’ve used before. We should research popular items or trends in the industry before the interview, so we can speak confidently about them.

Be Ready for Role-Playing Scenarios

Many retail interviews include role-playing scenarios where we might have to deal with a difficult customer or upsell a product. Practising these scenarios with a friend or family member can help us feel more comfortable. The key here is to showcase our problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm under pressure!
