We are looking for a dedicated and organised Technical Support Officer to join us on a permanent basis, providing essential administrative and technical support to our Industry Regulation teams. In this pivotal role, you will help ensure the smooth and effective delivery of environmental regulation across South East and South Central Wales. You will manage key regulatory systems, track important compliance deadlines, and maintain accurate records for permitted industrial sites. Your work will directly contribute to preventing pollution and protecting local communities by supporting and enabling our regulatory officers to stay focused on frontline environmental protection.

Working as part of a friendly, collaborative, and supportive team, you will liaise closely with regulatory officers and your Team Leader to meet critical compliance, monitoring, and reporting requirements, using a range of Business ICT applications such as MS Office, Sharepoint and PowerBI. Attention to detail, a proactive approach, and a passion for contributing to environmental outcomes will all help you thrive in this role. You will be contracted to an NRW office within the place base / location above and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

You will join a friendly, collaborative team working across South East and South Central Wales. The Industry Regulation team oversees a wide range of industry commercial activities, ensuring they meet environmental standards under regulations such as Environmental Permitting Regulations, non-nuclear Radioactive Substance Regulations, and Control of Major Accidents Hazards. We work closely with businesses to manage risks, protect the environment, and deliver positive outcomes for people and nature.

What you will do:

  • Managing critical business systems for the teams.
  • Managing document storage requirements to ensure compliance with current legislation.
  • Establishing and maintaining systems to track compliance and enforcement performance and ensuring issues are highlighted to the relevant Team Leaders.
  • Managing all data access requests received and responding within agreed timescales.
  • Supporting our response to complaints received.
  • Support and work closely with other team members to deliver work objectives in a timely and efficient manner in line with the annual workplan.
  • Maintain database for recording submissions against Permit requirements.
  • Contribute to a positive health, safety and well-being culture.
  • Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills:

In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method:

  • Previous experience in an Administration support role.
  • Strong and effective self-management and organisational skills.
  • Able to work well as part of a team.
  • Excellent customer care skills.
  • Prior experience of managing Business ICT systems.

Welsh Language level requirements:

Essential: Level A1 - Entry level. Please note if you do not meet the A1 requirement i.e., ability to understand basic phrases and ability to pronounce Welsh names correctly, then NRW offers a variety of learning options and staff support to help you meet these minimal requirements during the course of your employment with us.
