Natur am Byth Senior Officer in Slough

This is an exciting opportunity to join Natur am Byth, Wales' flagship species recovery programme and the first partnership of its kind in the country. As Senior Officer, you will play a pivotal role in the final phase of this ambitious, high-profile programme, working closely with the Programme Manager and a diverse network of partner organisations to deliver lasting benefits for Wales' most threatened species and habitats.

This varied and rewarding role offers the chance to lead on key workstreams, influence strategic decisions and gain experience across all aspects of programme delivery, evaluation and legacy development. You will help shape how the programme's achievements are captured, shared and sustained, while supporting activities ranging from monitoring and reporting to funders, contractor management and partner coordination, through to the delivery of knowledge exchange initiatives, conferences, webinars and other dissemination activities.

With opportunities to work across finance, governance, audit processes, Welsh language initiatives and nature connection projects, this role offers a unique chance to make a tangible contribution to one of Wales' most significant conservation programmes while developing valuable programme management and stakeholder engagement experience.

This post is fixed term until 31st October 2027 with the possibility of extension or permanency. As an organisation, we support flexible working. You will be contracted to an NRW office, and an appropriate hybrid working pattern will be agreed upon your appointment. Natur am Byth is Wales' largest natural heritage and public engagement programme, bringing together nine leading environmental charities and Natural Resources Wales (NRW) to tackle species decline and inspire more people to connect with nature. Backed by over £8 million of investment from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Welsh Government and other major supporters, the programme is delivering ambitious conservation action across Wales to protect 67 threatened species while creating lasting benefits for communities and future generations.

At the heart of this nationally significant partnership is the NRW central team, a small, supportive and highly collaborative group that leads programme management, communications, stakeholder engagement, evaluation and governance across all 11 projects. Joining the team offers a unique opportunity to work alongside passionate conservation professionals, influence one of the most ambitious nature recovery programmes in Wales, and help shape a lasting legacy for both people and nature. You will report to the Programme Manager and work closely with four experienced colleagues, partners and stakeholders from across the conservation sector, contributing to work that has a real and measurable impact.

What you will do:

• Support the Programme Manager (Team Leader) in the overall coordination, planning and delivery of the Natur am Byth programme and legacy.
• Lead and coordinate the implementation of the programme Impact Measurement Framework, to monitor, evaluate and report on our impacts and the difference that we make for people and natural heritage.
• Complete quarterly progress (output) monitoring across the 11 partner-led, place-based NaB species recovery projects and the nationally coordinated work packages (arts engagement, conservation grazing), reporting to our funders, partners and internal stakeholders.
• Work with the Programme Manager and Communications Officer to develop and implement a wide-ranging knowledge exchange and impact dissemination strategy to engage the general public, volunteers and local communities, as well as specialist audiences within the conservation sector with the outcomes of our work.
• Manage commissioned work, including procurement, contract management and delivery of outputs to time and quality for a range of activities across people engagement, evaluation and knowledge exchange.
• Mentor and support colleagues and contribute to improved ways of working across the team and partnership.
• Organise and lead meetings and workshops with project officers from our partner organisations.
• Monitor and manage delegated programme budgets and commissioned expenditure, ensuring delivery within approved financial limits, value for money and compliance with NRW and funder requirements.
• Support the Programme Manager and Finance Officer in carrying out the processes within the programme governance framework.
• Contribute towards strategic decisions to ensure NRW's and the programme's reputation is protected and enhanced.
• Build and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with partners, NRW colleagues, stakeholders and funding bodies to successfully deliver the NaB programme and legacy.
• Act as a point of contact for assigned workstreams, coordinating activity and responding to stakeholder enquiries.
• Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills:

• A recognised qualification or degree in a relevant subject or the equivalent experience.
• Fully IT literate with evidence of being able to learn new programmes and processes.
• Experience of working in a programme or project environment, including: Planning, delivery, and coordination; Co-ordinating contractors; Internal and external reporting.
• Experience of implementing monitoring and evaluation in a project or programme context, including data management and basic analysis and presentation of quantitative and qualitative data.
• Experience of engaging with a wide variety of stakeholders/audiences, including experience of organising and facilitating collaborative meetings or workshops.
• Experience of partnership working and ability to work effectively with both formal partner organisations and wider internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to collate, interpret and summarise complex information, producing clear, accurate outputs and to communicate complex information in an accessible way.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to develop and manage strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, from practitioners to policy makers.
• Effective self-management and organisational skills, including the ability to work within a project framework and manage challenging workloads, plus the ability to support and promote innovation, and demonstrate initiative and commitment.

Welsh Language level requirements:

• Essential: Level A1 - Entry level Welsh language levels. Please note if you do not meet the A1 requirement i.e., ability to understand basic phrases and ability to pronounce Welsh names correctly, then NRW offers a variety of learning options and staff support to help you meet these minimal requirements during the course of your employment with us.
