The role involves helping to restore Wales' rivers and tackle one of the nation's biggest environmental challenges. More than 200 abandoned metal mines across Wales continue to release harmful pollutants into the environment, affecting over 700km of rivers. Working with partners including the Mining Remediation Authority, solutions are being developed and delivered to reduce pollution and improve river health.
As a member of the team, essential technical and administrative support will be provided to this high-profile programme. Responsibilities include:
- Providing technical expertise, advice and guidance for the delivery of the Wales Metal Mines Programme.
- Supporting the Metal Mines team in developing the programme of work by assisting in site identification and problem definition.
- Reviewing complex data and information to provide analysis for achieving environmental outcomes.
- Undertaking landowner liaison and compiling statutory access notices.
- Advising and building effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Procurement and supervision of contractor-led work packages.
- Arranging meetings, site visits and liaising with external landowners and partners.
- Creating and managing project data, including databases and GIS files.
- Promoting safety and environmental practices.
- Committing to personal development through an effective personal development plan.
Qualifications and experience required include:
- Educated to a minimum of degree level in an environmental discipline.
- Experience of technical analysis and interpretation of complex environmental information.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in data management and analysis using software such as ArcGIS and Excel.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Working towards membership of a relevant professional institution.
Welsh language level requirements: Essential Level A1 - Entry level Welsh language skills are required, with support available for staff to meet these requirements during employment.
