The role involves shaping sustainable development across Wales as part of the Development Planning Advice Service (DPAS) at Natural Resources Wales (NRW). This position offers the opportunity to influence major development proposals, ensuring environmental priorities are central to decision-making.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing and providing assurance of advice to Local Development Plans and other sub-regional strategies.
- Producing advice for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects or complex, high-risk development proposals.
- Contributing professional judgement to decision-making regarding strategic and complex development proposals.
- Assuring information prepared in relation to challenges against NRW development planning advice.
- Attending appeals and inquiries.
- Providing operational input to the development of NRW policy, process, and guidance.
- Developing effective customer relationships.
- Influencing local development projects early in their evolution.
- Managing and delivering continuous improvement projects for the Service.
- Maintaining auditable records of actions and outcomes.
- Undertaking health and safety duties appropriate to the post.
Qualifications and experience required include:
- Excellent knowledge and substantial experience of environmental assessment and development planning processes.
- Experience of community liaison and public engagement activities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at senior management levels.
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to coach and mentor others.
- Strong self-management and organisational skills.
Welsh language level requirements: Essential - Level A1 (Entry level).
