The predicted salary is between 37800 - 46200 Β£ per year.
The role involves addressing the significant pollution pressures caused by abandoned metal mines in Wales, which discharge high levels of metals such as lead, zinc, and cadmium into the environment, affecting over 700km of rivers. The successful candidate will lead efforts to understand the sources of this pollution and develop solutions, providing high-quality technical input and project management.
Driving is essential for site visits across Wales. A full and current UK driving license is required. The organisation supports flexible working, with a hybrid working pattern agreed upon appointment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and project manage complex issues requiring development of NRW policies, strategies, plans, and programmes.
- Provide advice to Welsh Government and other bodies, reviewing and advising on produced policies and strategies.
- Maintain oversight of policy areas to ensure integrity with Welsh Government, Central Government, and EU Policy intent.
- Advise on evidence needs, commission evidence, and project manage evidence projects.
- Contribute to task and finish groups to prepare defined products as required.
- Engage with Welsh Government on specific policy areas related to abandoned mines.
- Collaborate with the Team Leader to develop and deliver a Personal Development Plan.
- Undertake health and safety duties appropriate to the post.
- Participate in incident response activities.
- Perform any other reasonable duties requested commensurate with the grade of this role.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
- Educated to a minimum of degree level in an environmental discipline (e.g., geoscience, geology, biology, environmental engineering) with experience related to abandoned metal mines.
- Knowledge of Welsh and UK policy drivers and legislation related to abandoned mines.
- Understanding of partners, stakeholders, and industries involved with abandoned mines in Wales.
- Experience in programme and project management, with relevant qualifications.
- Membership of a relevant professional institution at Chartered status or working towards chartership.
- Ability to represent the organisation in high-profile and contentious issues.
- Welsh Language level requirements: Essential Level A1 - Entry level.
