The role

This is a fantastic opportunity to join Natural Resources Wales' Estate Planning Team within Land Stewardship and play a direct role in shaping the future of Wales's forests. Supporting the delivery of woodland creation projects across the country, you'll help tackle the climate and nature emergencies while creating lasting environmental, social and economic benefits for generations to come.

Driving is essential to this role and you must hold a full and current UK driving license. The successful candidate will be required to tow a trailer as part of their duties. Where the necessary towing entitlement is not already held, appropriate training and support will be provided.

As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

What you will do

Work collaboratively the NRW Estate Team and relevant NRW staff to support the delivery of planting and establishment of new woodland creation sites. Have responsibility for direct delivery of delegated programmes. Develop and maintain effective customer relationships (internal and external) to ensure good understanding and the efficient delivery of fit for purpose licences and transition into compliance activities. Produce appropriate records of decisions, actions and outcomes to justify and demonstrate that all legal and procedural requirements have been met. Produce and provide regular accurate information to managers on progress, to adapt and ensure delivery of work to time and cost. Support engagement with sectors, partners, WG, Confor and other Environment bodies in Wales and the UK; and be a primary point of contact for customer queries. Participate in NRW technical groups. Contribute to task and finish groups, commissioned through the Business Boards, to prepare defined products as required. Collaborate with the Team Leader to develop and deliver an agreed Personal Development Plan. Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method. Knowledge of Welsh, UK and relevant European legislation relating to sustainable forest management and forestry planning, including woodland assurance and forest certification standards. Understanding of forestry policy drivers in Wales and across the UK, together with the key opportunities and challenges facing the forestry sector in Wales. Knowledge of woodland creation and forest establishment, including species selection, planting, maintenance and the practices required to develop resilient, sustainable woodlands. Experience of analysing and interpreting a range of environmental data and information, including survey data. Experience of working with large datasets (10,000+ records or multiple integrated data sources) is desirable. Experience of building effective working relationships across the forestry sector, including with local authorities, environmental organisations, National Parks and other land managers. An ability to share your knowledge and expertise to support problem-solving, providing specialist advice and guidance across the wider team as required. Welsh Language level requirements
