The role involves taking action on the nature emergency and helping build a more sustainable future for Wales. The Natura 2000 Sustainable Management Adviser will join the Environment Team to develop and deliver practical conservation projects, secure funding through grants and capital proposals, and provide expert ecological advice on terrestrial biodiversity.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with partners and landowners to support effective habitat management, monitor progress, and ensure compliance with management agreements.
  • Contributing to regulatory work, including assents and consents, and responding to planning and permitting consultations.
  • Playing an active role in NRW's Incident Management Service.
  • Developing partnership projects that will reverse biodiversity declines.
  • Identifying and developing proposals for capital and grant aid funding consistent with Sustainable Management of Natural Resources (SMNR) principles.
  • Ensuring implementation and reporting of projects adhere to NRW policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring progress of work, including interpretation of data and contractor management.
  • Gathering evidence to check that claim submissions are appropriate.
  • Undertaking health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.
  • Participating in incident response activities.
  • Committing to personal development through the effective use of a personal development plan.

Qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills required:

  • Experience of nature conservation, biodiversity, protected sites & landscapes in marine or terrestrial environments.
  • Strong self-management and organisational skills, with the ability to use specialised IT systems, such as GIS.
  • Ability to influence, negotiate, and gain cooperation from others, including experience working with landowners and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, with a customer focus and proven ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Ability to write clear, concise technical reports and work well in a team environment.
  • Hold a current full UK valid licence to drive NRW fleet vehicles.
  • Welsh Language level requirements: Essential Level A1 - Entry level Welsh language skills.
