The role is an unpaid work-experience placement suitable for school students aged 15 and over. The placement will be based at our Maes y Ffynnon office in Penrhosgarnedd, Bangor. It is a one-week opportunity during the week commencing 6 July 2026, with up to 25 hours available. Exact working hours will be agreed with you in advance.
As a Data and Records Assistant, you will help sort, scan and manage physical documents, deciding which need to be retained and which can be securely destroyed. You will also have the opportunity to learn about records and data management, as well as gain insight into different areas of our work, including marine, conservation and GIS (Geographic Information Systems). This placement will give you valuable experience in organising and handling documents while developing new skills in a supportive environment.
To assess your suitability for the placement, we may contact you or ask you to meet us for an informal interview. If your application is successful, you will be required to complete a Placement Agreement which sets out the responsibilities and expectations for the placement.
About us: We are a small, friendly and supportive team working in Knowledge and Information Management within the Digital, Data and Technology department. We're passionate about good data governance and place excellent customer service at the heart of everything we do.
What you will do:
- Help sort documents that need to be kept or destroyed based on policy.
- Assist in scanning documents that need to be saved.
- Help organise image slides and prepare them for scanning.
- Assist with scanning reports and making sure they're stored correctly.
- Help cross-check document titles to make sure they are accurate.
- Assist in finding and managing physical data to make sure it's organised and easy to find.
- Learn about new records and data management systems.
- Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills:
- Willing to learn how to use scanning equipment and manage physical documents.
- Must be able to pay attention to detail and understand the importance of keeping data accurate.
- Interested in learning about environmental topics and NRW's work.
- Eager to gain experience in an office environment.
- Must be able to get to and from the office independently.
- Keen to build confidence while working with others.

Essential: Level A1 - Entry level
