The role involves recruiting a Hydrogeologist to join the Geoscience Team. The post holder will work within a team of hydrogeologists and contaminated land staff across Wales, advising and supporting different teams across NRW on a range of topics, focusing on development planning, groundwater resources, and groundwater quality.

You will provide specialist technical advice, including during pre-application discussions with applicants, assessing permit applications that pose a potential risk to groundwater, and managing groundwater resources, including assessing new groundwater abstraction applications and reviewing remediation strategies and environmental investigations.

The post will also help the continued development of the regulatory approach for Geoscience, interpreting legislation, gathering evidence, and developing operational policy, guidance, and tools for staff to use. The post holder will report to the Geoscience Team Leader in the Operations department and has no direct reports.

About us: Within Natural Resources Wales, the term Geoscience covers groundwater resources, groundwater quality, land quality, and discharges from abandoned coal mines. The team provides both technical and policy leads on matters regarding land contamination and groundwater protection across Wales. The candidate's expertise in this role will directly contribute to shaping NRW's policies, programmes, plans, strategies, and guidance. It is also an advisory role to the Welsh Government with the potential to assist in the development of legislation and guidance, whilst supporting various UK and Wales working groups.
