About the Role
We’re looking for a practical and detail‑focused Exhibition Specialist to support the development, installation and maintenance of displays across the Natural History Museum’s galleries and exhibitions. Working within the Painting, Joinery & Display team, you’ll help create and maintain exhibition environments that bring the Museum’s collections to life for millions of visitors each year. This hands‑on role includes fabricating and installing specimen and artwork mounts, maintaining existing displays and supporting exhibition builds across both permanent galleries and temporary exhibitions. You’ll also carry out routine gallery maintenance, respond to repair requests, support Integrated Pest Management activities and work closely with colleagues across Technical Production on refurbishment and display projects. This is a varied, part‑time role suited to someone who enjoys practical problem‑solving, precision work and contributing to high‑quality visitor experiences in a unique museum environment.
About You
You’re a skilled and adaptable maker with experience working on exhibitions, displays or similar practical fabrication projects. You’ll bring hands‑on experience in mount making and workshop fabrication techniques, including brazing, silver soldering and working with acrylic and other materials. You are confident using workshop tools and machinery safely, and take pride in producing high‑quality, detail‑oriented work. You’re comfortable handling delicate objects and specimens with care, and enjoy working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Alongside your practical skills, you are organised, proactive and able to manage a varied workload across installation, maintenance and workshop activities. An interest in museums, exhibitions or heritage environments would be advantageous, but most importantly, you bring a positive attitude, a strong attention to detail and enthusiasm for creating exceptional display environments.
